Good Morning Lantus Land.

Guinness running the high numbers again this am. At least it's in the 300"s? Drinking some water, looking for more food. Still wondering what else might be going on inside him to cause this return. Waiting for vet to return from vacation so I can discuss with her, but not necessarily confident she has any good ideas. I'm going to try and get a ketone test this am, wish me luck! bcatrun_gif

Good luck with the ketone test! I have a terrible time getting one. I just have to stalk him and then he has stage fright. :shock:

Today seems to be a high number day for a lot of the kitkats today. Champ started so nice and has only climbed all day. You watch, he'll do the blues again tonight, just to make sure I again get no sleep. He can be such a pooh.

Good luck getting Guinness to cooperate today. It would be nice if he were to just get down into some yellows, huh?

i haven't done it, but i did prepare a box with lentils to make it easy on me. punkin has long hair on his thighs and is a squatter, so i knew there was no catching him in the act. someone suggested lentils because they're relatively cheap and they don't change the reading. i just take a regular box lid (from a case of paper), slip it inside a garbage or leaf bag, and insto-presto a temporary litter box.

good luck with the testing. i'm sure you'll be relieved to get the test done.

We're starting high today too! I was wondering if he got into something last night but I triple checked that I put everything away and the trash can is in tact. I just started a new vile of insulin yesterday so I was thinking he might have hit green last night and is bouncing. Silly kitties have to always keep us on our toes.

I have yet to do a ketone test.. bad momma. :oops: :oops: Willy is a squatter and he will also pee on his foot on occasion (yeah, don't ask me how I know). He gets stage fright and seems to "know" when we're trying to do one. We are buying some of the strips that you put in with the litter this week actually. We want to transition to using something like gravel but he's unpredictable/random and shares the boxes with 3 other kitties so we're trying to get into the habit first!

Still in the high 300's even at 5.5u insulin.

Question: Can I give .1u of r tonight even though I will not be home to test until +5? I am past PMPS but could give it at +1. thoughts? Would anyone recommend bumping it up to .25u or should I wait until I can test +1,+2,+3 & +4 before I bump it up.

Binks already had one...then
Tess's Ann clued me in about not buying the pee pads...and then ketone testing is, well...a breeze!

the other cats have a regular box...but binks loves his Breeze...and he is such a clean freak and rarely ever has liquipoo, that i save a HUGE amount of money
cuz the pellets last forever...

also saw something about a coupon...will see if i can find the link for you.

Initial cost is around 28-30 dollars...but the savings in cat litter costs are enormous

and just a note here...i don't put the white sideboard on the box...binks still has some neuropathy, and makes it easier to get in the box.

i keep it in the bathroom, and use a glove to drop solids into the toilet, then just empty the tray and use diaper wipes and rinse it twice a day...it's great!

occasionally, however...he treats me to some intense aromatherapy when i'm in the shower :lol:

sorry I haven't been helping much, I haven't been able to be online much. At 395 I think you're fine to give 0.1 units of R. You can try 0.25 some time after nadir when you can test, but I wouldn't try it for the first time when you're not able to test.

Bink''s bean...that is a GREAT litter box. I'm going to have to invest in one or two of those. My 2 cats have 4 boxes with Sweat Scoop and World's Best Cat Litter mixed together. My husband is scoop king and he has to wear a mask because the dust really aggravates his asthma. This will be nice for that too. Plus, the getting the Ketone tests would be so much easier. Thanks again!

Thanks Libby. By the time I get home from work it will be the R's +3.5ish, so I will take a reading then and see how he is doing.

Hi Linda, Just a note: I use World's Best litter and have never noticed any dust (and Rusty kicks up a storm in his lb). It must be the other kind you are mixing it with.
