Can I get some opinions on her 1st curve after starting Glargine 0.5U twice a day a week ago, if it's not too soon? I believe I was encouraged to ask around now. Thanks!

Hi. No, not too soon the general rule of thumb is to do a curve 1 week after beginning insulin therapy. I put the curve into a chart for a visual.

If you were ever wondering WHY they call it a curve -- there you go. As far as thoughts --- looks like a fairly typical curve for a newly treated diabetic feline. You can see the insulin hitting and dropping the BGs then the BG rising again as the insulin wears off. Over time, the goal is to "flatten" that curve as as much as possible. A diabetic kitty that is well-regulated doesn't have as steep a drop as the insulin hits and the BG doesn't rise much at all later in the day even as the insulin wears off.

Overall, this is a good start to Celia's insulin therapy imo. I would highly recommend you get more tests during the evening cycle though (after the PM shot....a +2 and a +3 or 4, at least a couple times a week, would be really really useful data). Many cats have different looking cycles in the evening, with their BGs dropping lower than during the day. I'm not sure how late in the evening you are shooting though, getting those evening BGs can make for some late nights but it's worth it!
