Got busy with final exam week and haven't posted much... mostly same old same old here. We nudged the dose back up to 5.5 U and it looks like we're finally getting somewhere.

Oberon had a vet checkup today; looks great and we're doing routine senior labs, which I'll add to the SS when we get them back. The vet was impressed with the BG graph. She said that in the vet community there's a movement towards managing FD based on clinical signs rather than chasing numbers, which probably makes sense in general. Not sure it would work for my bouncy IAA boy.

Kitten Freya also got to go to the vet (routine shots and a clean bill of health); the other two go next week and will get routine senior labs done. We're finally chipping all the cats; Oberon was already done long ago because he's an escape artist, but I figured we should do the others as well.

You done for the summer now?

That's a long stretch of flat! :D He likes this dose so far.

Interesting on managing by symptoms. It's a lot easier to get people to observe (though some aren't that observant) than test I suppose. And it depends whether people want to aim for remission or not, or keep kitty under renal threshold. I also agree that it wouldn't work for IAA, or acromegaly kitties.

Big pile of grading due Monday, and then I'm done.

I have a feeling he'll tell me tonight or tomorrow that he's done with this dose. Or bounce... one of those things.

You could probably use just body weight to tell a lot, at least for some cats. One indicator that I know we're doing ok for Oberon even though he spends half his time in high numbers is that he's back to a normal and stable weight of about 13 lbs from the 10 he'd dropped to at Dx. Might not work as well for cats that need to lose weight, though. But it's easier to weigh than test.
