Well, last night's cycle was interesting. I think I would have been more pleased if I understood how he could possibly have gotten down to 204 at PMPS. Very out of character and, therefore, extremely perplexing. Regardless, had a lovely cycle of blues. :-D Thanks again, Marje, for keeping me company!!

Woke up this morning and couldn't find Champ. I have no idea where he hides out and I hate that. I've tried to block off all under-the-bed accesses, but he always seems to find ways to belly-crawl to where he wants to go!! :lol: He was a good kitters, though, and let me poke and shoot with no fussing and ate all his breakfast. Now he's doing his morning aerobics of running around like a crazy cat. I love it, though, cuz he had stopped doing that for so long. I know he's fine when the mad dashing around the house commences! :-D

I don't know what the heck is going on with the Las Vegas weather, but we're going back down to the 70's and may have some rain by Wednesday. I'm so excited!!! When I know I have four months of unbearable heat coming at me, any respite is welcomed with much joy. :lol:

Now, off to deal with Monday!!

I hope that you get that cool weather and rain you are looking for .. we are back down to high's in the low 50's again .. a cool wet spring so far .. have a great day guys!

Patty, I'm glad to hear that last night was a breeze instead of being scary.

I would love to have a repeat of last night, but it doesn't look like that's in the cards. Poor Champ...his right ear is soo red and sore looking. I only use his right ear for testing because that was the one he never seemed to mind me messing with and it bleeds so nice for me. He always moved his head so much when I tried to use his left ear. Well after the marathon of poking yesterday, his poor ear is red and inflamed. I feel terrible. I should have realized not to use the same ear for that many pokes in such a short period of time. I've smeared it all up with Neosporin so hopefully that will bring the soreness and swelling down. I'm going to have to teach his left ear to bleed for me. I used it this morning and it was a two-poke test which I hate to do, and he still hates for me to use that ear so there was a lot of head tossing and ear twitching. Can't say I blame him. How many of us want to get our ears pierced multiple times a day?? He didn't finish his 2nd breakfast, but I think it's because he's just so tired from not getting much sleep last night. I'm going to check his +4 and if it's in the 200's still, I'm going to leave him alone until PMPS. It's the least I can do for the fella! :-D

Hi Melissa!! He is keeping me on my toes! It was about time there was a change in his numbers. Oh course, it looks like we're back to the usual, but at least I know he can get down if he wants to!!

I know what you mean! Tarragon has been running high 200's and low to mid 300's. The one day I do a curve, he threw me some 100's, then if he didn't get over 400 the next day. It is a total moving target and it seems like there is no consistency whatever. I'm glad Champ was able to enjoy some lower numbers for awhile. Maybe he will decide he likes it down there and do it some more.

Morning guys! What a nice cycle Champ had last night - I am sorry that I missed it. Stoopid internet here....

The neosporin should help the ear. It does wonders for Mannie. he's been poked on the same ear for 3 years now. :shock: and no worse for wear. Some folks here also put vitamin E on the ear too - it's supposed to promote healing too.

Nice job on the curve - sure liked those 100's last night, now he bounces - I do hope it clears soon enough so he can get back to those pretty blues, maybe even find the greens.

WOW --- Nice blue numbers last night Champ!! They sure look good one you....try them again, I think you will learn to like them. :mrgreen: Our weather has been a little different here in SWFL, too. Usually this is the beautiful time of the year....warm (80's) but no humidity, no rain....well we have had recording breaking temps above 95 for a couple of weeks and thunderstorms :shock: but today it is back to normal...low 80's, sunny, breezy, no humidity and best of all NO A/C!

Sees ya tonight at the party....maybe we can let the bird out of cage?? We can chase him, then! ~Zoe

YAY Champ. I'll bet those blues felt good, huh? I know I like them! But they're nothing to worry about, so you don't have to bounce, okay? Yeah I know, I bounced too. But it wasn't for very long :-D

Sorry your ear is all pokied. My ear got pokied bad on Saturday and if my ear wasn't black, I bet you could see the bruises!

what a wonderful run, Champ!!

binks never let me use the left ear...but on the many days we tested more than 20 times...he never bruised or got sore.

guess those big, bare Manxie ears are a blessing!

Well, crapola. Looks like we're back to the norm for Champ. I do believe, though, that I'm going to do some experimentation. I notice that yesterday I fed Champ at 6 a.m., a little more at 10 a.m., and then went out and he had nothing until PMPS at which time he had a low BG. Last night (or rather, this morning) I left out food for him to eat at his +7 (when his BG was 137) so he wouldn't wake me and I could get a glorious three hours sleep and his BG at his +10 was 283. I'm thinking his BGs may be very susceptible to food. So.....I'm joining overfeeders anonymous. He is only going to be fed at AMPS/PMPS and +4's, plus very low carb stuff for pokes (chicken, freeze-dried salmon, maybe a smidge of 2% FF).

I finally bought a Solostar Pen (found one place who would sell me one pen), but I don't want to use it yet cuz I really don't think anything is wrong with the vial I'm using. Yes, it's 50 days old, but it's always been refrigerated and is clear as can be with no floaties. Plus, he did get the blue numbers last night with that vial of insulin. I'm going to try to stay strong with the feeding schedule and see if that makes any difference. If I don't cheat with the food and his numbers remain in the high 200-300s, I'll break open the pen. I've already messed up with overdoing the food today, so I'll just have to start at his PMPS.

Dear Patty....glad to keep you company last night!!! YOu are so awesome....and we west coasters gotta have those pj parties although we fizzled out early!! I hadn't even gotten on my footie pjs yet.

On feeding schedule...many of us feed at PS, +1, +2, +3 and I also give Gracie a +4 snack. Gracie gets 1.5 oz per cycle so she gets .5 oz at PS and +1 so she has food on board in case she drops and then she gets .25 oz at +2 and +3. This way she feels like she's eating more!!! She adjusted faster than I thought she would. This morning I was posting at her +1 and almost forgot it and she came strolling in with a look on her face almost as if she had on a watch and was saying " UH..BEAN...+1!!" :lol: :lol:

Sore ears and sore paws! Our poor little kitties. I just keep telling myself that the pain of pokes is nothing compared to the pain of high BG over time. I had the vial and elected to swap it out at 30 days for the pens. I don't think my vial was bad either, but I wanted to be sure.

I feed Guinness meals at AMPS/+6/PMPS/+6 ...BUT, he gets a crap load of roasted chicken breast pieces for his tests. You can imagine this past weekend, he was all full up of chicken. He's always hungry though, not matter how much he eats. I've never seen him walk aways from food. NEVER.

I hope you make it back to the blue soon!

Hey Marje, it looks all dark and stormy outside!!! Except, of course, it's looked like that before and then a couple clouds just spit on us and move on. If it rains at night I'll be bummed. I like to watch out the window while it rains...it's so purty :lol:

On feeding...Champ currently weighs 17 pounds so he's going to need more food than Gracie. His vet and I agree that his ideal weight is no less than 14 pounds so he does need to lose a few pounds. I used Dr. Lisa's calculations which say a 14-pound cat should eat 260 calories a day. Champ eats less than that and doesn't lose weight at that amount. I'm thinking he should eat 6 oz of wet a day with a SMALL amount of treats at pokes. Because calories in the treats add up without realizing it, I think that's where we're coming up with Champ's too-many calories per day. Maybe I should feed him 5 oz of wet per day to make up for the snacks? The Wellness I feed him has a calorie count of 220 per 5.5 oz can. None of the flavors I feed him have more calories, though some have less. I can feed him 1 oz at AMPS/PMPS, 0.5 oz at +1, +2, & +3, with no wet food being fed after +4. I'll see how his weight and his BGs look with this routine and then tweek it from there. Waddaya think?

Linda, I almost missed your post!! Champ is a little piggie, too. I think he's become so addicted to the freeze-dried salmon that he's turning his nose up at his Wellness for his regular meals. I've been sprinkling some of the salmon on the food to get him to eat it, but I don't want him to get used to that! I have been feeding him something at +6 which is why I'm going to see how he does if I don't feed past +4. Obviously, what I've been doing isn't working so I'm going to try to switch it up. I'm going to give the vial at least one more day to see if there's any change in Champ's BGs. I still don't see how he could have blues if the insulin was bad, though. Ugghhh. Geez, no decision is easy, is it??

I don't know if anyone is up and I don't know if I have a situation here or not. I have no idea why Champ is all of a sudden going down. I don't have any MC here, just LC and HC, so I fed some LC. His +5.5 was actually done at 11:20 and the +6 was at 12:00 so in 40 minutes he dropped 40 points. How often should I test?

Hi Ronnie, it's nice to see someone else up and about. I've felt oh so alone!! :lol: I do have some HC, but never thought about getting any MC. What is the percent of carbs for MC, do you know? Just because I didn't want to deal with greens for the very first time by myself, I let Champ have a few licks of gravy from a HC FF.

MC is usually anything just over the 10% range, but ECID (every cat is different) as an example, my kitty is carb sensitive, so anything over 8% may be considered MC for him.
I see you keep good food notes on your spreadsheet, overtime you will be able to see how MC and HC affect Champ's numbers.

If you need to sleep - you can always offer a little snack, LC might be ok this late in the cycle.
Looks like you are seeing the rise now.
But if you're nervous still, then adding a little bit of higher carb will help bump him up a bit.
The low numbers do get easier, but first you gotta deal with the lower blue numbers, lol!
You're doing fine by the way!
