Today is finally the day! I am going to the cat shelter and picking up Missy, the 9 year old big black kitty that has been at the shelter for almost 2 years. For any of you that do not know her story: Missy was loved by an older woman. Missy rescued her owner one night from a fire in the house by licking the owner awake. The owner, at a later time, had a major stroke and had to go into a rehab facility. Her children dumped Missy at the no-kill cat shelter. When the woman got better, she came and took MIssy back home. Only 2 weeks later, the woman died and her kids found her with Missy in her arms  . They dumped her again at the cat shelter and she has been there for almost 2 years. She was once so loved by her owner. She is so sweet and seemed to like both me and DH when we visited her.

I am a little worried about Simon taking to Missy, but I am going to do the introductions very slowly, over a few weeks. Missy will be in one of bedrooms I have set up for her. Simon has always had cats in the house but is now the only cat since Cleo passed away. I think he will enjoy having another kitty in the home (eventually).

Please send thoughts and prayers your way today for Missy and Simon. Meanwhile, Simon is a gorgeous blue!

I'll post later when I get Missy home (in the early afternoon).

Re: 5/15 Simon AMPS 147 I am picking up Missy today!

I am so excited for you, DH, Simon, and Missy!!! Simon seemed like he was getting used to feisty young Cole, so I bet he adjusts to a more mellow Missy quite well. I am sure you will all bring much joy to each other's lives. I can't wait to see the pictures :-D !

(((Georgia)))
Prayers and paws and fingers crossed all goes well today with bringing Missy home. I felt all teary reading Missy's story with her loving caregiver and then teary again at the happy ending of her finding you and DH. Missy is one lucky kitty. Let us know when she's home. I'm sure all with Simon and Missy with the slow meet and greet. You will will have lots of feedback here, too, from others who have experience.

Re: 5/15 Simon AMPS 147 I am picking up Missy today!

How could Simon not find a spot in his heart for such a smart and devoted kitty? Please let us know how the introductions go and all about Missy. She's a very lucky girl.

I am so happy for you, and for Missy. I remember her story, and I think it is so wonderful that she will once again have a loving home. I think Simon will take to her, even if it takes little time. Go slow and then intros and getting to know each other goes better. Wishing you much luck. Enjoy this special day.

Love Simon's amps today too! Surf well little one.

There are so many like Missy with stories like that. They lose their owner.
I'm glad Missy was discovered by you and I hope they learn to accept each other.

Welcome home, Missy! You are much loved and you are a very lucky kitty.

Georgia, I am so glad that you will have this wonderful, brave, and loving kitty as part of your family. Best of luck with the introductions.

Re: 5/15 Simon AMPS 147 +6 152 Missy is Home!

Missy is finally home! I just got home and she is doing great. I opened the carrier in her room and she came right out. She is exploring the room and purrs when I pet her. I think she is very happy to be out of the window-less cat room she was in for 2 years. When she came into the shelter, she weighed 24 pounds. She now weighs almost 19 pounds so she has safely lost weight over the 2 years.

I plan on switching her to all canned food. Same as Simon, but I need to do it slowly.

I hear her meowing at the door. She already wants to come out and explore.

Simon seems pretty low-key right now. I am giving him lots of attention and treats. I put a sock with Missy's scent on it in front of him and gave him some treats. He had no problem eating next to the sock. I hope that is a good sign.

I'm going to leave her pretty much alone today so she can explore the room and also to show Simon that he is still loved. :-D

I'll keep you updated!

Re: 5/15 Simon AMPS 147 +6 152 Missy is Home!

Oh you are a dear for adopting her. I hope things work out great between her and Simon. Did you say she was a black cat? I do a little TNR work for a no kill shelter here in town from time to time and they said black cats are the hardest to get adopted out.
I read her story you posted in Simon`s condo, so sad. Best of luck to you guys.

Terri

Hooray!!! We need pics...pretty please!!!! Wow, 24lbs....I can't imagine. She's just the luckiest cat ever to have found you, and it sounds like she knows it!

Welcome home Missy!! Siunds like things are off to a good start. Yes, Pics please when you get a chance.

Re: 5/15 Simon PMPS 315 Missy is Home!

I guess Simon is not that excited right now about Missy -- his pink PMPS is not pretty.

I am not able to post pics for some reason. I am so stupid when it comes to that sort of thing.

I have asked Claudia to post for me so be on the look out for pictures soon.

Re: 5/15 Simon PMPS 315 Missy is Home!

Congratulations! What a pretty kitty she is, and what story, too. Those rotten kids, but at least they chose a no-kill shelter. Thank you for adopting Missy - she is one lucky kitty!

Boy, it seems like we have new adoptions all around! We still have Mako in his own room and he and Leo are now sniffing through a screen door that DH made. We are going slowly too. Good luck with it!

She is a pretty girl. She seems to be taking to her wet food really well. Glad to finally see pictures, thanks. Look forward to more.

Terri

What a sweet girl.... wonder why black cats are harder... I know our shelter won't let any go around the month of October.... and I don't blame them.

Our shelters are full of stories of being dumped because of life changes.... moving... getting married....allergies ( get shots) ...
I hated it and couldn't handle being there for long. They wish I would come work there but it's so difficult to keep your distance and not take it personally.

Congratulations to Missy!!!
Paws crossed that they will be a good match down the road....

Missy, you are so beautiful! What a lucky girl to find your furever home. :-D :-D :-D I read somewhere that black cats are not adopted as readily because their faces are hard to see. Same with black dogs. I personally think black cats especially striking. :-D Simon, you are a very handsome boy, too.
Liz

That's got to be the feel good story of the week! She's gorgeous and I'm so glad she is able to be in a loving home again. Hopefully Simon will agree!

Oh what a bootiful baby you are Missy! Welcome back to 'home'!

I agree - lots of new kitties! We just proclaimed integration success with our Leo into the main house with KT and Snow PLUS our newly adopted sugar kitty #2 arrives May 25th!

I'm looking forward to watching Simon and her become friends. THANK YOU for rescuing her.

BIG HUGE HUG!!!

I'm so glad everyone thinks Missy is beautiful. She is a little hefty but chunky is beautiful, too!

Lisa, it is funny that you mentioned putting up a screen door for the integration process. I asked DH to do the same thing! He is a building contractor and just happens to have a spare screen door on one of his jobs. He is going to install it over the next few days. I'm sure my family is now really going to think I am nuts!

Such a pretty kitty!! Congratulations! I'm so happy she now has the purrfect forever home and sending lots of easy integration vines between Missy and Simon.

Black cats (and dogs) are indeed the last to go and take about twice as long as a lighter colour animal to get adopted. Some people are superstitious still, and there is the issue that it is hard to get a good photo of them (I used to take pictures for our shelter's PetFinder pages). Although I do like the ones Claudia posted. Very nice shiny fur. :-D

Missy is so beautiful. She reminds me of our Alice--our first kitty--also all-black, of indeterminate age, also on the chubby side (at first we thought she was pregnant). I love black cats, but I too have heard that they are hard for shelters to place. Missy: you have a wonderful family and you will love your new home.

I hope that the first night goes well and will be thinking of you all.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

LOL! Yup, we are all nuts! I am going to post a couple pictures tomorrow of the boys' first encounter. Our screen isn't installed, we just taped it there for short sessions. We'll see how long we need to do that. Very cool DH has an extra!

Congrats to Missy and you have a giant beautiful heart. Love her photos, btw my Etoile is all black too and no one wanted him either. I have a message for Simon "Simon, my boy now is the time to welcome your new sister, she will love you and you will love her too, think of all the fun you 2 can have" Thanks for sharing Missy's photos she has for sure earned a forever home, her previous owner I am sure is smiling down on you all.
