I called the vet yesterday to book a dental, and they had a last minute cancellation so a spot was open today. She is there now and I've been told to call around 3PM to see if she is ready to come home. I left one of her blankies and a can of Wellness LC in case they try to feed her.

Neko was irritated, to say the least, about the no snack when we left for rowing and the no breakfast rule! I did give her a little extra LC before midnight last night in the hopes that it would tide her over a bit. The carpet only got shredded once. She kept on wanting to go out for yard patrol but did use the LB this morning. No playing or purring, all focus was on food or lack thereof.

OT bird and rowing report: the owls are back this spring. Both DH and I were woken up before the alarm by the sound of hooting. It's finally warm enough to have the windows open at night so that may have been part of it. It was a glorious day on the water today. Water was as flat as a mirror, which is pretty good considering it's ocean. Lots of geese and seagulls flocking about, and I sited an eagle and blue heron. It's now light enough to need sunglasses in the morning and warm enough that the number of layers is diminishing.

It's a good day to get the vacuuming and power washing done. Neko hates both of those sounds.

Hi Wendy & Neko,

Sending good dental vines to Neko!

I think it's great that you can get out every day to row. We love paddling our canoes and are glad that winter is gone and we can get out on the water again.

Enjoy your milder weather,

Ella & Rusty

No extractions! Just some nice shiny white teeth now. She's still a bit woozy so I have to wait until 4:30 to pick her up.

Great news!
I don't know what was said about eating, but Shadoe was wanting to eat the first hour home.... I just gave her little bits to be sure she did not gulp down any as she had not eaten since the nite before. So glad to hear that no extractions were needed; I hope the gums and everything were also in good shape.

Re: 5/15 Neko AMPS 452 - dental update

Gayle - I haven't got the discharge instructions yet, but I imagine it'll be just small amounts of food at first. I used to work/volunteer at our local shelter for years so got quite familiar to "small meals after operations". Of course, that was without a demanding FD cat! I also haven't talked to the vet yet, so haven't got all the details on what was done.

Re: 5/15 Neko AMPS 452 - dental update

Shadoe was pretty demanding after her dental, and she literally snorted back her food.

Oh ya...a nice set of shiny chicklets!

Glad to hear his dental went well:) Now he can get back to business!

Neko is back home, initially a bit wobbly. The advice from the tech was "don't let her go up and down stairs for the evening". I went downstairs to get some fresh litter and when I turned around, guess who was half way down the stairs. When she first got home she tried hopping into her kitchen stool (the one in the avatar) and failed, but has now hopped up into it a couple of times and cruised the counter. Sigh! Will have to watch her closely.

I've given her 3 tsp of food over the hour she has been home and she is cruising the litter box for the the tasty Worlds Best Corn. Num num! I put the LB on the bathroom counter but she hopped up there. OK - jumping ability is now fine, although a little wobbly walking, but clearly not enough FUDS.
I'm trying to avoid the scarf and barf but will have to continue doling out tsp of food at a time every 20 minutes or so for a while.

It looks like Neko hit the yellows while at the vet, after the anesthesia which was given at +5.

The vet recommendation is 1/2 dose again for tonight and probably back to full dose tomorrow, depending on her appetite and numbers. I think she's got the appetite down fine. The vet said most cats only eat half a dinner, but I don't think that will be a problem here. I think the 1/2 dose for tonight is probably a decent strategy anyway, as anesthesia can last up to 36 hours.

The comments about the dental were "very good teeth for a cat her age". She just had the bit of tartar on one side, upper. I also talked to the vet about strategies going forward if we continue to have high numbers. She wasn't concerned about the numbers, but she mostly has experience with Caninsulin. They do have an internest they can refer to if we want to investigate further why the higher insulin requirements.

Congrats Wendy! Glad that Neko is fine & no extraction! Don't worry, the numbers will come down. Just give him more time.
