Good morning!!!!

Yesterday's condo

Yesterday
AMPS=335 (0.5u BCS, not eating); +2=295; +7.75=176; +9=184
PMPS=184 (0.75u); +2=209; +4.5=151; +6=133; +7.25=218; +9.75=140

Today
AMPS=151 (0.75u); +2=193; +3=205; +9=187
PMPS=214 (0.75u);

Lucy is feeling SUPER good, and that is making me SUPER happy!!!!
She even ate some of the 1st breakfast on her own.
It's yesterday's cypro talking, but what a relief!!!
One dose of cypro usually lasts to cover 2 meals for Lucy, so I may need to give her another dose this evening.
If I give her a smaller crumb, it doesn't do anything, but a 1/4 pill seems to last over 24 hours.

Her numbers are really good too.
She had a "hairball paste" spike at +7.25 last night, which was expected.
Lucy likes Vetoquinol Vitalax, but I stopped giving it to her when she was re-dx'd with FD last year because it's sort of sweet.
But the vet really wanted me to give some to her for her tummy, I was a little hesitant, and he just gave me a tube for free.
I thought if he thought it was that important, I should do it even if it spikes her BG.
The spike was fierce but short, so I think I'll continue doing this for a while, and see if it helps.
I've tried many other hairball remedies, but she doesn't like any of them... I especially so wished she liked coconut oil, but no go.
So it's going to be Vitalax or nothing. I shouldn't have to give her too often once it's maintenance as she doesn't groom much anymore.

I'm also thinking about trying changing her pred schedule back to 5mg every other day, instead of the current 2.5mg every day.
She was on a 5mg every other day schedule for years, but I changed it to a 2.5mg every day schedule last year so her cycles are more even.
But I think her GI condition was generally better when she was on 5mg every other day, so maybe the concentration matters more than the vet or I thought.
The vet will call me today with the b/w & urinalysis results, so I will talk to him about this.

I'd like to thank everyone who visited Lucy's condo yesterday and gave us vines, advice, suggestion and hugs.
Being sick and not eating aren't too new for Lucy, but Lucy was sick in a slightly different way yesterday, so I was scared.
Having all your wonderful support and this place to express my worries helped me stay calm and think straight.
Thank you so much! :YMHUG:

Re: 5/15 Lucy AMPS=151;+2=193;+3=205

Pred spike!! And maybe A/B spike too!!!
But she's still feeling goooood!!!!! :-D

I'm going to work.
Lots to catch up as I didn't get much done yesterday.

Re: 5/15 Lucy AMPS=151;+2=193;+9=187 // LIVER VALUES SUPER H

I got the b/w results, and they're concerning....
The liver values are super high.....

ALT (ref range 27-158 IU/L) --- 1060 :o
AST (ref range 16-67 IU/L) --- 287
ALP (ref range 12-59 IU/L --- 111 :?

White cell count is also high (ref range 3.9-19.0 x10E9/L) --- 27.3

So the vet thinks this is due to inflammation.
He thinks that the inflammation from her IBD/pancreatitis is moving up to her liver through bile duct.
He is putting her on another A/B called Zeniquin, 1/2 of 25mg tablet once a day for 2 weeks, on top of Metronidazole.

We are to re-check her blood in 2 weeks.
If the liver values aren't better then, we'll do Ultrasound.
Her kidney values are similar to the last tests in March.
I'll update the lab SS later tonight.....

I spoke with the vet about the hairball gel and pred schedule.
I told him about the hairball gel spiking her BG.
He said in that case he didn't want me to use it long term as prevention, but to use it only when hairballs might be causing problem.
Also, he didn't want me to change the pred schedule at the moment because a bigger dose may give her a bigger spike even if it's every other day.
He said diabetes is just about the only thing that's looking great, and he doesn't want to ruin it.

Lucy seems to be still feeling fine.
So I'm going to focus on that, and have faith that she'll improve.

Re: 5/15 Lucy AMPS=151;+2=193;+9=187 // LIVER VALUES SUPER H

I just saw the subject line and looked at the labs but you haven't had a chance to post. Waiting to hear what the vet said. I'm assuming she will need an u/s?

I hope she's feeling better still. (((mariko)))

Thank you, Marje,
We cross posted.
I haven't updated the lab SS, but put the liver values in my last post.
I would really appreciate any insights you might be able to give.
I'll update the lab SS tonight, and I'll mention in tomorrow's condo's subject line that it's there....

Re: 5/15 Lucy AMPS=151;+2=193;+9=187 // LIVER VALUES SUPER H

Hi Mariko,
I am glad that Lucy is feeling so good today, but concerned, as are you, about the liver values. I can't be of any help here, but just want you to know that we are sending Lucy all of our best positive thoughts and some beautiful vines.

I hope your vet will be able to figure it all out.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

p.s. Sorry I missed your condo yesterday.

Re: 5/15 Lucy AMPS=151;+2=193;+9=187 // LIVER VALUES SUPER H

Sorry about the liver values and I hope the AB makes a difference in them. I'm glad Lucy feels better and hope she continues feeling good for a while. Good luck with the pilling.

You can't get out of a visit that easily Miss Lucy! ;-)

Lucy ate the 1st dinner well.
She actually begged for it, but she still wanted finger-feeding.

Sorry to hear the liver values are so high, but it's wonderful that she's acting like she feels better. She can't read those values so having her act like she's happy is the most important thing while you get this figured out.

Sending more vines Lucy's way and hope the AB is wildly successful!

Mariko:

I'm so glad she's still feeling so well, and eating well, too. That is sooooo important! Good idea to focus on the positive. You'll drive yourself crazy otherwise.

Sending tons of positive, healing vines and lots of prayers. A few hugs, too. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

I'm sorry to see the high liver values and hope the antibiotic helps turn that around. It's a good sign that she seems to feel well though.

Did he refer to this as triaditis? If you have the liver, gall bladder, and pancreas involved, it is usually triaditis. Treatments which can help are:

Antibiotics
Fluids
Ursodiol (are you giving taurine powder because ursodiol given over a long period of time can deplete taurine)
Denamarin

Gracie had a bile duct infection dx by u/s which we did because her ALT was 300. Her liver and pancreas were unaffected. She was treated with a long course of clavamox and has been on ursodiol for a very long time.

You might PM Jill as she has dealt with triaditis in Alex although I believe that was their assumption based on symptoms and not an u/s but I could be incorrect.
