Appetite seems iffy - but then again, she ate all of her breakfast when I spiked the last of it with the fortiflora. And had some chicken. So, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

She's acting a little odd. I can't quite put my finger on it. I don't know if she's feeling better or worse or just different. She's been drinking a lot of water lately with the UTI and her high numbers, and that hasn't changed (yet?). Just keeping an eye on her - she's not acting like she feels particularly bad, just different. I could just be watching too closely - the weather changed and it's actually nice and kind of warm, so that could be a factor too (when the furnace stopped running, the little bit of sneezing she'd been doing for days seemed greatly reduced - I haven't heard her sneeze in over a day).

If Kasha could post herself, she'd probably write: "Krys is acting a little odd. I can't quite put my paw on it. Maybe it's the warmer weather..."

Oh yes I agree with D. I hope the AB kicks in and helps her feel better.

Re: 5/15 Kasha AMPS 478

The ABs will probably start to do their thing in the first 48 hrs. I'm hoping they help to bring Kasha's numbers down.

Well, 24 hours since she (supposedly) took her first pill and she's still drinking a lot and high numbers. Gave her the 2nd Baytril tonight. Forgot to butter it (in case that helped) and she fought me - spit it out twice - but then it was gone, so I assume she swallowed it. I checked me, the carpet and her fur, so I can only guess it went down. I'm going to have nightmares about being at work and reaching into my pocket and finding a handful of Baytril that she somehow saved and spit into my pocket (I did check my pockets after the pill just in case she was that clever - no Baytril).

I always forget about her front paws - Big Cat never uses his paws to push me away when I pill him, but of course, Kasha twists and turns and paws at me. She's not putting her all into it, just enuf resistance to make it clear she is only there under protest.

She ate about 2 Tbsp dinner, which is her norm, so that's ok, I guess. She ate a lot one day this week and now I keep comparing her intake to that day - which doesn't make any sense.

Gave her subQ fluids today - she's drinking a lot and maybe not feeling her best and that always seems to help. Plus, I wanted to practice and see if I could do it on my own at home (Kasha can be kind of fractious). Found the perfect location - she has a box on the front porch where she lies and enjoys the breeze and views from the windows. There are blinds on the windows, which are attached via these hooks, so I hooked the bag up there and no problem. She chilled out and all was well. It wouldn't be a good location in winter, but it works for now.

I loved your description of finding a pocketful of kitty meds! I think I've had that nightmare, too. I never knew about things like Pill Pockets until coming here. I always just scruffed my cats and either used a pill shooter or, more often, my fingers to get the cats to take a pill. Every so often, the "How to Pill a Cat" piece circulates the internet and reminds me how lucky I am that I can come away with all 5 fingers after giving pills.

Cats are smart. Water is good for a UTI. I know you're checking ketones -- it's especially important if there's an infection.

Well, Kasha doesn't have much of a scruff and she'll scream bloody murder if you try to grab her by what there is of it...

Checked for ketones again today (twice - just whenever I catch her heading to the litter area) - still negative.
