Another food theft in the middle of the night. I think it would make it harder for him to actually steal the food, if I could remember to put it away! Last night's theft involved two servings of raw food defrosting on the sink (yes, I know they were suppose to be defrosting in the fridge). Compared to food thefts in the past (bread, bagels, a whole treat container), it's not such a heinous crime this time. I do worry about the plastic bag consumption though.

Decided to try another round of the R this am. Since I had to feed him Cowboy Cookout instead of raw, I doubt his numbers will drop too significantly on the R. I will be getting a +1, +2, +3 and maybe a +4.

+1 has got to be in response to being fed canned Cowboy Cookout rather than his raw food. I didn't have any defrosted raw food to feed him this am, so had to give him the canned. It's still very low carb, but probably not as low as the raw he's been eating lately.

He's laying around looking tired, but I could be projecting how I feel on to him I-)

Obviously, not enough R to combat the bounce/food spike that is happening in his body right now. I'm feeling sad for my kitty today. :cry:

Hi Linda, I can't help you with your dose(es), but I just wanted to lend a little support. You are doing so well, feeling your way along this very tricky path. I hope that Guinness will come down soon to better numbers.

Linda you had quite a day yesterday! But it looks like you did well. That first day is the worst. I was very tense and afraid, but Gus survived as will Guinness. It's definitely harder on the beans. I agree with you, there is an awful lot of testing at first, but as you get to know how your cat reacts to R, there may be times when you won't have to test as often. Keep up the good work. It looks as if your doing a great job. Guinness is a lucky kitty to have such a great Momma.

So my problem now is I won't be here for the +4...I'm sure he won't drop too low, but I won't have the number. I might be able to get a +4.5 or +5, but I'm guessing that won't be as telling data wise. Maybe I can sweet talk my husband into giving it a try?

+4.5 should be fine, or get a test right before you leave.

It looks like what we are learning is that Guinness has a fairly late onset for R - not until somewhere between +2 and +3, but then he gets a pretty good drop from it. Hopefully the Lantus will be able to grab onto this lower +3 now and hold him low for a while.

My dh was able to get the +4, but it is a 466! That just doesn't make any since to me. Why would he be a 330 at +3 and then 466 at +4. I will be taking a +6 soon.

Can I shoot him again with R at +6 to get him out of these high numbers????? Please advise to what dose.

+6 is in 10 minutes. If he is 300+ can I shoot him again with the R? Can I give R twice in one cycle?

Thanks Patty! I had to make an executive decision so I shot him with another 0.1u of R at +6. I'm here all day to monitor and will get test for the next 4 hours. I just hated to see him in those high 400s. Hopefully, I didn't make the wrong decision, I just had to go with my gut!

I would have done the same thing because it sure doesn't look like it would hurt. R doesn't seem to bring him down very much at that dose. I'm going to keep an eye out and keep you bumped up though.

My poor cat's paw man. I've tried numerous times to get an ear, but he wants nothing to do with that. He continually gives me the same paw over and over. I can't even get a hold of a different paw to test. I'm gonna knit him some kitten mittens after this is all done!

Linda, Just like Libby said, you made the right choice, with the numbers that Guinness is showing you right now, +6 is definitely ok to give a bit more R..
I'll be around all day if you have any other questions.. I'm not as experienced as Libby is with R but i've done my fair share now and i'll help any way i can.
Bev was so right when she said the beginning can be scary, but in no time you'll be teaching others about how to dose R. You're doing wonderful by Guinness.. He's very lucky to have you!

I know you meant Guinness, but typed Gus. Gus and Guinness could be brothers right now with their high BGs and beans using R. It's very easy to get them confused! Thanks again for checking in on us!

He's determined to be in the 400s. Hopefully, the Lantus will bring him down tonight. I probably won't test him again until right before bed (mine, not his).

This whole episode has brought me back to when he first went OTJ and had very low numbers and I had to test frantically and decide if I should shoot low AM & PM numbers. I'm thinking confidence and a little daring with the knowledge to react if something bad happens is the best way to handle these crazy times.
