Good morning LL! Happy Friday!

While I didn't get back on the board last night to post Eddie's PMBG, he was at 101, and came down to 88 after eating, so looking good.

The cupboard explorer (Blueberry) was on the prowl again last night and found a bag of sandwich buns, pulled them out of the cupboard, and ate at least half a bun. I don't know if Eddie participated in the raid or not. It looks as though we may have to kid-proof all of our cupboards.

This morning DH tested, and first got 173, then 222 on retest. That makes us think Eddie did indeed have himself a snack of bread. I tested before leaving for work which was about 2.5 hours after breakfast, and he was at 87, with a retest of 97, so I don't know what to make of these numbers this morning.

Should I chalk it up to wonky tests, a possible carb raid, or the beginnings of a failed trial?

Hope everyone has a good Friday today.

Do you use a timed feeder for your kitties? It seems like yours love food as much as mine does, and the timed feeder is hit or miss with her since she sometimes breaks in or just messes with it enough that it won't spin. Wondering if you use the timed feeder if you have any tips. The best I can do now is set the timer for 10:00 AND 10:01... So that the food is two spaces down while she waits...

Oh and congrats on day 7!!!

Hi Gabrielle!

We have five cats and use three feeders - the Petsafe 5. I haven't had any trouble with anyone trying to break into them or with them rotating. I do know if they're not quite seated right, they may not spin all the way, so after I clean the trays, I manually advance them once to ensure it's spinning properly. Eddie is usually pretty good about staying out of stuff, but foster Blueberry will eat anything he can get into. Early on, when Eddie was super ravenous with his uncontrolled symptoms, he would try to steal anything he could get into. I found that mini-meals worked wonders to help curb that constant hunger. Eddie was also a super-super bouncy cat, so the mini-meals seemed to help with his diving and bouncing somewhat, too. Our shooting/feeding schedule was tweaked over time, but we used to be feed a small meal and shoot at 5:15 AM, and then up to two more small meals over the next 2.5 hours before I left for work. Later on, I'd feed a small snack at +6 when I came home from lunch, and then we added one via auto-feeder at +9. Those mini-meals seemed to keep them satisfied and keep the hunger at bay somewhat. In the PM, there would be three small meals between PM and +3, then another snack at +6, and via auto-feeder at +9. Eddie's liked to sometimes go on streaks of low numbers, so he often got small snacks to keep him surfing before his numbers steadied out. With the auto-feeders, when I'm filling them, I do sometimes put a treat or a tiny bit of food into the open tray that the cats can clean out until it's time for the feeder to spin later on. I think maybe that little snack in the open tray gets them to leave the feeders alone until it's time for it to spin, since they think they already cleaned it out. ;)

I would assume that Blueberry was able to talk Eddie into having a snack of high carbs last night and chalk it up to that. If he hadn't come down so well in the 2.5 hours when you left I would say a problem. however, the opposite....with NO insulin he brought himself back down into a lovely normal range....

I see no failed trail myself (but then again, I am not as knowledgeable as others, so lol)

Thanks Jen!
Maybe I'll try that as well. I feed her at each PS and +3 as of now. She only gets one can of food a day so I can't really break the meals up much more. I'm hoping that, like you said, once her numbers start getting better her ravenous hunger will calm down. She woke me up last night at 2am with attacking the feeder! (We have the petsafe 5 as well). It's also to the point where she doesn't leave the dining room, like ever, anymore. That's where she gets tested and meals, so she just sits around and waits for the timer to go off. I hope that this gets better soon, I miss her company on the couch :)

My Scooter went OTJ and then life became different. Anything available to him he ate. We baby proofed all our cabinets and put everything else in the fridge. If the grandkids put down a bag of anything he was so fast the bag would be gone as they turned their heads. So my bet is Blueberry may not even be at fault!

Eddie, whatcha doing? No bread for you!!! So happy to see he come down to a nice green. Yay, half way there.

PMBG = 102 so much better than this morning's start. DH asked if Eddie would bounce off the big drop this morning given Eddie's love of the trampoline. I was actually kind of curious since I know some rare kitties bounce off their own insulin. Thankfully he didn't.

Having our first fire in the backyard tonight and the kitties are having some supervised outside time.

i think he got into the bread too. nom nom nom. *whew* i'm glad he came down today - my heart stopped when I saw the 173.

sounds like a wonderful evening! enjoy your fire.

and congrats on making it to day 7!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Thanks for your input ladies. I think I have to assume that Eddie did snack on some buns before AMBG this morning. Won't fret about the yucky number this morning and will write it off as due to the carb raid. Eddie came down nicely again tonight to 77 after eating so it looks like his panceas is alive and doing its job. Fingers crossed for another seven more days!

Happy Day 7!
I, too, agree it was the bread. Bread is the downfall of many a dieter.
