Need some guidelines:
1. What are the guidelines if insulin is too old?
2. What would cause M's pattern to change?
3. What are the guidelines for insulin duration?

I hope you can understand my question as I am having a hard time putting them into words.
Michael has been on 1.25u of Lantus bid for serveral cycles now. We saw a lot of blue. only a wee bit of green. And now all of a sudden yellows & pinks. ( This why the questions) I'm going to increase to 1.5u on Friday morning. Chris had suggested this morning, but by the time I got the computer up I had already given M his dose of 1.25.
I won't be home to monitor tonight so I will increase tomorrow morning.
I'm so confused:confused:
Thanks again in advance
Paula:)

Do you remember when you started your current vial of insulin? Of course his patterns could change simple because he's a cat :joyful:....but if you're insulin is on the older side, I would be suspicious of it not being good any more. With that said, we have seen people get a range of time out of a single vial...some could get a good 4 months out of one, while others couldn't get much past one month for whatever reason. I know that doesn't help you much! But I would say if your insulin is less than about 2 months old, I would suspect it is probably OK....that's just a ballpark.

Other things that could affect his numbers are things like needing a dental, an infection or any other change in health, stress, changes in food. And sometimes their pancreas just gets tired and they need a little more juice for a while.

Hopefully we'll see some of those pretty blues again soon!!

I wouldn't be surprised if he got to greens last Sunday night - he was 106 at +2.25 and 107 at amps - i'd think it was really likely that he got into greens between those two tests.

When I see a 362 in the middle of the afternoon today, I think he must be bouncing from something. I can't see what it is, but he doesn't normally rise in the middle of the cycle unless he's bouncing. I'm not sure whether I would increase or hold. And since I can't tell, but today looks like bouncing to me, I think I'd test a little more when I thought the bounce had cleared and try to see how low he's getting in between the bounces.

Thanks Julie.
It looks like the bounce is clearing. (pmps 293 +4.5 147).
I will hold the increase for a couple of more cycles to see if he gets into the greens.
