Cycle 9 of new dose reduction, still fingers and paws crossed.

Also, yesterday I asked if anyone could use new Novolog insulin pens, I don't think it's a kitty insulin, but wanted to make sure before I toss it out.

Sending lots of healing vines for sweet Rocket, and all the other kitties and beans who may need them today.

I'm sorry I won't get around the board today, not a good health day at all.

Hope everyone has a good night, and I'll see you tomorrow LL :YMHUG:

Nice numbers for Daphne today!

I hope tomorrow is better for you! The rain is supposed to stop by Wednesday...I think we're ALL looking forward to it!

Re: 5/14 Daphne AMPS 143, +3 97, +10 80, PMPS 79 PAIN

Thanks everyone for visiting us tonight.

Daphne and I are a real mess right now. I noticed she had that posture and look (pain), she has arthritis and my back is almost completely locked up too. I don't have a pain regimen for Daphne yet, I was working so hard on her numbers and it is raining here and has been all day and will be tomorrow. I started to notice Daphne's pain posture when we had the last rain and of course if I feel it, I know its the right conclusion. SO, I knew she had arthritis, but it wasn't real bad, and I gave her the cosequin, before her FD dx in Nov., and I think it raised her numbers, so I stopped it in Dec.

I guess, I need fast advice right now for her, she looks miserable. I was in the middle of researching the Adequan, and I'll look into it, but does anyone have any advice for right now. Can I give her anything I may have in the house now…aspirin, Tylenol, Vicodin,, I have stuff for my own pain (not helping me much tonight though).

I'm keeping heat on her now, with a hot cloth towel.

Hi barb - I hope someone will be along that can help you - I just don't know the answer. I do know, or so I have been told - do NOT to give aspirin, Tylenol etc to cats. I hope you can wait until someone who does know for sure can come and help. I hope you find some relief too. so sorry...

at least this will bump you up in cue...

Thanks Michelle, ok, I won't give her any of that then. She seems to be a bit better with the hot moist towels I'm putting on her.

Hi Barb,

Racci always seems to like a massage when she's sore or maybe some hot towels from the dryer? It's been raining and miserable here too and Racci's cranky, constipated and won't eat also. I'm about to try to feed her again.

Try the massage & heat. I wouldn't be that quick to give pain meds not prescribed. I know they can have tramadol if you have, or valium. Personally, I wouldn't tho. I do hope Daphne feels better!

Thanks Melainie, I do that also, she seems to like my little massage that I do and I have been putting the hot moist heat on her, for the last 1/2 hour and she does seem to be a little better. The one good thing about having a bad back, and pain, we know how to treat our kitties at least a little.

Thanks for the advice on not giving anything I have, I know thats a good idea, I was just desperate.

I use electric blanket laid on bed plus hot water bottle wrapped in towel for my cats during the cold days. Hot water bottle can maintain the warm longer & better.
And about your back pain, do a light stretching will help a bit. Just sit straight on a sturdy chair, slowly bend forward while you sit, try to touch your heel & hold the position to count of 10, Sit straight, & do again. It doesn't matter whether you can touch your heel or not, it's just stretches your lower back.
Hope you & Daphne get well soon!

OH, what a great idea, thanks Tortie. I've been wanting an electric blanket anyway, so now Daphne will have one first, and I'm sure she will share. I forgot all about hot water bottles, used them when I was a child, and forgot how well they work.

I have been putting hot moist towels from a heating pad, (the heating pad isn't on her), just to warm the towels. She is sleeping now, seems to be comfortable.

Thanks for the stretches, also know that one, but forget to do it.

I'm almost wondering if I put the heat on in the house if it would help. Its about in the 60s here but it may take the dampness out of the house. Thanks God, I just heard a new weather forcast, its going to only rain tomorrow and sunny on Wed.

Definitely turn on the heater will help to relex Daphne & you! Take a deep breathe & relex, stress & tension make us all stiff too!

Thanks Tortie!!!!

She feels a lot better, I think the tried and ture methods still work, even on kitties

I'll try and get some sleep and wake up early to give her more hot towels and try to get the other stuff, if I manage to drive.

Have a good night. OH, it may be morning for you.?

I forgot about that stretching and hot water bottles too. Good thinking, Helen! You know what feels good for me too ? Stretching the other way. I stand up with my hands on my waist and stretch backwards as far as I can and it seems to loosen my back a little. I don't even own a hot water bottle anymore. I should really get one. It's true that we have a little more insight than most into what will help that rotten arthritis. It's not fair that our angels should have to suffer with it too!

I'm glad Daphne seems to feel a little better now. Even tho it's cool here, the house is warm. I couldn't imagine putting on the heat. I have the ceiling fans on in all the rooms plus the house fan and windows all open a little. Racci is lying in the middle of the LR rug stretched out under the fan, but she still won't eat! I think she's not eating because she hasn't moved her bowels and won't because of her back. I think I'll try carrying her to the lbox. I hate the thought of going to bed without her eating! I might have to give her some dry food to snack on if I can't get anything in her. Well, wish me luck. Here I go.

I just wrote a whole post and lost it!

I have used a pet heating pad under several layers of blanket in my cat's big dog sized bed, in the winter. They love it.

I also use Equine Adequan for J.D., and I think I get the best price from Foster and Smith, but you'll need a prescription. I just use my insulin syringes to inject it. It's also good for some urinary or bladder issues, which J.D. used to have. Knock on wood.

I hope you find something that helps her and she is feeling better today.

Hi Barb,
I hope that you and Daphne are feeling better this morning. I have one of those microwave heating pads that is filled with tiny pellets. It provides wonderful moist heat that stays warm and moist for about 1/2 hour before you have to put it back in the microwave. The brand I have is:
Sunbeam Health at Home, Recovery/ Healing Therapy Beads.

Check in with you later. Gotta run now,

I would not use ANY human pain meds without talking to your vet. Aspirin and Tylenol can be problematic. In fact, any of the NSAIDs can cause problems and have to be used very judiciously. Obviously, no Metacam due to its ability to cause renal failure. Many people use bupe or Tramadol, but they are opiates. A number of people here have used Adequan.

There are also heated cat beds.

Oh -- and don't use the Novolog. It's a short acting insulin.

Smudgie has a hot water bottle that looks like a little black sheep, and it's covered in fake lamb's wool...
she loves it! I put it in her little kitty bed, and she thinks it's the Bee's Knees.

sending healing vines for you both....

Thanks everyone who gave me such great advice for Daphne's pain, I have such brain fog, (not from meds, just from the Fibro and pain I have with myself, when I ignore myself/health issues, by brain just turns off) So sorry, I can't remember who said what, but I I bookmarked some things, and wrote down some notes.

I did speak with the vet and will probably get the bup tomorrow. But the best news is the rain will be gone and Daphne is a different cat in the warm sun and loves the vit D and our natural pain killer, endorphins from the sun. In fact we both do. What a pair we are

Melanie I hope Racci will eat for you tonight.

Thanks again LL. :YMHUG: Please forgive me again, for not getting to your condos, my back can't sit for one more min., it so bad.
