Gus is mercifully lower today. DH says, "Well, that's good that he's yellow and pink,right? " (And it only took a boatload of R to get him there :roll: ) Hope new vet is ready for me today :lol: Teeth, acro test, IAA test!! Should be interesting. An answer is just around the corner: Door #1, Door#2, or Door#3.

This is probably going to sound mercenary but, I'm going to see what happens to Gus' BG when the bad tooth is removed. This could be the explanation I've been waiting for. If I have to invest $$ for the blood tests, fine. But I'm hoping for the easy way out for both Gus and I.

waiting to hear about your vet visit - at least Gus is in good numbers today, even if it took extra help to get him there.

i'm still uncertain why the use of R instead of just increasing the dose of lantus. Do you understand it bev? if so, i'd love to get educated.
 
Gus has a bad tooth and inflamed gums around it, so surgery is set for Tues. 5/13 in the AM. The vet suggested ( :o ) that while Gus is under for the extraction, a blood sample be taken to test for acro. I had to educate him about IAA, but he thinks that although there is a sick tooth, it is not totally responsible for Gus' #s. He thinks that Gus has a better than average chance of being acro. I'm praying for low #s after tooth goes bye-bye and /or IAA. Of course, Gus is chillin' with his new NANNERS!!! While I continue to count all the new grey hairs with his name on them. Thanks to all who sent good vibes, wishes, and thoughts our way today. The vet was super impressed by the organization and degree of expertise present on this board. He's going to check it out. Some very positive signs today.
 
That's great news that your vet is on board with you, Bev. I hope fixing up Gus's tooth situation has a huge impact on his numbers!

Will the vet do pre- and/or post- dental x-rays? The pre-dental x-rays are how my vet found out that Trixie had 6 teeth that were broken off at the crowns; without them, we wouldn't have known that she needed to have all those roots removed. I'm glad they could get his surgery scheduled so quickly.

Well Bev i'm sure everyone is hoping that its just Gus' bad tooth thats causing all the crazy BG numbers.

Leo and I will have our fingers and paws crossed that everything goes more smooth out when that tooth is out!!
 
You've really had a trial of a day today, huh? I hope getting rid of that tooth helps his numbers improve a lot...and good luck on the testing, too!!
 
Sorry for the bum tooth -maybe once it is gone all will be better. I am glad all went well with the vet - it is always so great when they support what we do here. :-D :cool: Good luck too the with acro and IAA testing.

the tooth may very well fix everything (it wouldn't be the first time that has happened). It does make sense to go ahead and draw the extra blood while he's there, though. If you're doing the acro test then definitely do the IAA test at the same time because it's only a little bit more. Shipping is usually the expensive part, so doing them together will probably save money.
 
A bad tooth may well make a big difference, but it's not likely the cause of these high numbers.
My Shadoe dropped from 14u BID down to 2.75u BID after one tooth extraction, but she is acro and the low dose did not last long.

Best to get both acro and IAA testing done because the IAA is only $15 or something like that.
Also, IAA can be temporary so it's good to have that test done.
