my phone did not go off this morning, so the short gray furry alarm did. but he knows what side his bread is buttered on, he stood next to the bf and meowed and sat on his face. cat and i have an unspoken rule- do not wake up mommy if you value your pretty hide.

I'm thinking last night must have been a fur shot (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=43155) however i'm also a little suspicious of his response to ff turkey & giblets. he seems to be higher on that, but since i didn't have data as meticulously organized previously, i can't back up that claim. i think right now i'll just go back to the food charts and poke around. i would like to incorporate more of the instinct in his meals as well, so i need to count calories.

Now we are back in the green. Always bouncing. It is a little frustrating some days to have such fantastic numbers, and then see such a huge increase. I've read up some on bounces, so I understand logically why it's happening, I just don't know how we can get the bounce cycle under control.

And he is a pretty cool cat to live with, subtlety is not his strong suit.

Oh my dear...I wish I had a nickel for everytime I've said and others in LL have said "I wish I knew how to stop the bouncing". I still say it after 8 months and the answer is we can't. Only the liver can. It is the most frustrating thing about FD, I think. DH and I often believe that if it weren't for the bouncing, many of the kitties would be OTJ....Tess is on four drops of insulin but still bouncing. Gracie is down to sk .75u, still bouncing. Checkbook....still bouncing altho his are lower bounces. Take a look at Mocha's SS. Amazing story....bounced for 21 months and then stopped. Also..Alex's SS. Bounced up until two weeks before she went OTJ for four years. Tuffy....bouncy queen for something like 800+ days..then OTJ. D'Artagnan is doing great..he's getting some good green numbers!!! And he's so handsome!

if cuteness=good blood sugar, we'd be set!

i lurk on peoples spreadsheets all the time. something i did notice is that many people who have success controlling the bounces and keeping things level do mini meals. we started splitting up his meals about a month ago? right now we have some flexibility with it since the bf works from home, but mornings are often busy for him with work stuff, so remembering meals is not easy, and i don't want to also lose our evenings to cat food. we once tried an auto feeder, but it actually broke on day one, so i haven't tried them again.

how do other people do mini meals? he will lick through an ice cube in 10 minutes by the way...kitty cubes are a favorite treat during Chicago summers.

Pre diabetes he would get hours of entertainment when I would freeze part of a cooked chicken breast and stick him and the chicken in the tub. He would chase the chicken around the tub, it would defrost and be slippery and chaseable, he would be happy, i would be grossed out.

Alot of us feed to control the drops, not necessarily the bounces. Although if you control the drops, you take one item out of the equation for bounces because fast, steep drops can cause bouncing. So the schedule many of us feed on are a minimeal at PS, +1, +2, +3 and maybe a small snack before nadir. We give Gracie .5 oz at PS and +1, .25 oz at +2 and +3, and a small snack at +4. This generally helps control her drops; but you have to figure out the appropriate number of ounces for your kitty. Gracie is a small cat so she doesn't get alot of food in one day. A larger cat will need more food divided up.

that was kinda my thinking, it may take a little trial and error, but i may be able to find a way to make mini meals both a cushion and a parachute. He's a big boy. When he was first dx he was at 16lbs. Now he's around 14. The vet would like him a shade lighter, but still is a two lap cat.

i'll have to start looking at auto-feeders again.

not bad seeing where we started this am...

where as i went to work all day with a cold and DayQuil (my boss looked at me and said- you've looked better.- he's an awesome boss, always asks about cat)

the cat did this:

Re: 5.12 D'Artagnan PMPS 64

personally, I think it is a great sign that this bounce only lasted one cycle. Nice! Can you get a +1?

And your bathtub story gave me an idea for an exercise program that Lucy might actually go for. She would either persistently chase the frozen chicken around the tub, or find a way to eat it whole. Hmmm...

it's pretty funny to watch them run around the tub. but when he finally got it down to a more bite size prize, he wanted to parade it around the house, defrosting chicken does not match my sofa.
