Couldn't get back to do The test after +6.5 until PMPS. seems to have had early nadir. No poops but eating well. Regime changed so nothing to soften the stool. Back to normal IBD regime.

So, he ate about an ounce and a half after shot, but he just regurgitated it. I gave him a little viyo and some pepcid to settle his stomach.

I don't remember, in the morning, does pepcid interfere with anything? I see no drug interactions listed, but do I need to separate the pepcid dose from other things?

I guess cerenia doesn't last that long!

Damn! Finally getting poops, then this!

He had cerenia when he got his depo medrol, last Tuesday. My doc did it, but isn't impressed with it. I was, but I wonder if it caused those days of apparent constipation. He' pooping as of yesterday, and regurgitating again tonight. Seems more than coincidence. Perhaps the pepcid 2x/day may be less strong on the bowels and give him relief in the tummy.

He never regurgitated until the day before starting insulin. Totally new symptom.

Ugh! My poor boy.

Been reading up, and since it interferes with b12 absorption, I think well up the methyl cobalamin, too. He gets cyano in his sub q. Looks like it doesn't interfere with anything else.

@Wendy&Neko - It looks like last night's pepcid helped - he was starving this morning. Gave pepcid and 3 other of his tiny pills first thing (have to distribute morning meds over time, so he can keep them down). He refused to wait, so I gave him 1oz of food. Hope it stays down!
@rhiannon and shadow - do REGULAR pharmacies have the cerenia liquid? I know my doc doesn't and would have to order it and then upcharge me, or, if it's at the actual pharmacy in the small enough dose, I can just buy it. How do you get yours? Compounding where I live iS PROHIBITIVELY expensive... I had to go to a compounding Px in Tennessee (I'm in Los Angeles) to even get budesinode I could actually afford...

I don't think regular pharmacies have it. I'm hunting all over for my receipt and can't find it.... but I saved money by getting it
thru diamondbackdrugs.com....
your vet just faxes them a prescription and they are very communicative by email.
I love this pharmacy for pets.

her bupe - 10 mL is 32.95 +8 shipping.... (I was paying $110 for my vet to load up 30 syringes (each 0.1mL) - they wouldn't sell me a bottle)

the cerenia was cheaper too... and so was the gengraf ( cyclosporin) which is the most expensive drug we have.

THANK YOU!!!

Wait... what's bupe?

I'll look into Diamond Back drugs - that's a great resource.

I buy the budesonide from a Px in Tennessee - the bottle of 60 caps +$25 shipped - which I think is great, and they're great in customer service too. But, if he'll give me a cerenia scrip, I'm gonna check these guys out.

I just wish it was easy from a regular pharmacy.... I don't like to wait....

He's in tomorrow, gonna ask about the px for cerenia - but first want to see if the pepcid is sufficient. This morning, it seemed to be...

found receipt....

budesonide for 60 tablets was 34.88 so you beat that one.....
cerenia suspension (maropitant citrate) 10mL was $160.44

note the large quantity....

bupe is bupenorphine for pain. (shadow has severe arthritis)

they will give you prices by email. and if you lump prescriptions.... it's only one shipping charge....

My vetty says cerenia injections should last up to 3 days; however, Trix is on cerenia tablets every 36 hours and if she does reach a point when she needs an injection (like when she has a p-tities flare), I don't wait 3 days before restarting the tablets -I usually do it within 48 hours of the injection, because if I wait to long and she vomits again, the tablets won't stay down and we have to go for another injection...vicious cycle.

For her, I have found that cerenia (4mg tablet) every 36 hours works well to keep her settled. She has Stage 3-ish CKD coupled with some p-titis issues, so things can throw her tummy off at times. I get her tablets from ThrivingPets.com. The tablets are more affordable than injections.

Another thing I do with Trix, which may or may not work for you, is I pack all of her meds into an empty #3 gelcap, and they all go down in one fell swoop. There are days I curse the gelcap (when she repeatedly spits it out), but overall it is a blessing, because it prevents her from tasting the pills, and know they go down and she's not cheeking them. She gets 3-4 pills twice a day, all packed into one gelcap.

@Amy&TrixieCat tablets are a great option - he pills well. All his other meds don't fit even into a #0 cap (which he could take, if I could fit them) so he gets several #3's with mixes or individual doses a day - or I put a few part tablets in them. I spend a lot of time with the capsule filler, that's for sure! :)

The injections as frequent as even the 6 days this last one lasted are too expensive - I can't do them, so the tablet option would help me. Can I ask how much you pay for tablets? I don't really NEED compounded liquid, just thought that was the only option. I suppose I can call Thriving pets...

I'm still hoping the pepcid is sufficient. Did help last night - and I *think* it's helping this morning.... THANKS!

Here's the link to cerenia on ThrivingPets...$13.95 for four 16mg tablets. I usually order a number of things at once (IV lines for fluids, several packs of cerenia, etc) in order to get free shipping. Since He's an easy piller, cerenia tablets may be the way to go. My vetty charges $49 per cerenia injections, so needless to say, we save those for only when we absolutely need them! FWIW, Thriving Pets also does have a vial, but since Trix generally does well with the tablets except when she has an issue flare up, I've never investigated the vial.

Trix is usually good with her gelcap, but when she's in a mood, it is rough! You'll often see me cursing or praising the gelcap in her condo...such a love/hate relationship.

Cerenia on ThrivingPets.com

I'm sure other places care the tablets, too, but I haven't shopped around in a while.

Definitely better than the shot price, @Amy&TrixieCat ! But... that's still a ton for 4 pills... Oy!
I can totally get that love/hate/cuss-it-out thing with the caps (and pills). Sometimes, the enteric coating sticks to my fingers and these things come out with my finger, instead of me swallowing it. That can incite my potty-mouth fast! ;D

Thank you for this link - I'm still worried about the shot having caused constipation, so I want to give pepcid a bit of time - but I have a feeling this is going to come in VERY handy! Thanks!!!

It's a lot for 4 pills but remember that each pill is actually 4 doses - at least for Trix it is, since she gets 4mg at a time, and she only gets it every 36 hours. So it does stretch out a bit. Trix also gets Pepcid and that does help a lot, too.

OH! So, that's actually 16 pills over about a month and a half? That's not too bad..... Hmmmmmm.......

Do you have any issue with constipation? Eegie's IBD went reversed while the shot was in effect - he went several days between icky poops.... Now that the cerenia's worn off, he's pooping more like his normal self, timing-wise. It's still rather un-solid though...

Uh oh - speaking of poop, I'm pretty sure I have a cleanup on aisle 5.... (meaning the puppy pads near the litter boxes....)

Yeah, with every other day dosing, 4 pills (which is 16 doses) lasts just over a month. Everyone is a little different with dosing, though - it's a fairly new bed and there are different ideas about what should be done with dosing, so that is something to work out with your vet.

Trix has never had an issue with constipation with cerenia, but she also doesn't have IBD (knock on wood). There are a few kitties here who do have IBD, though, so their beans could answer that question better for you.
