hey guys...

binks is pretty much a 26-28 hour guy for LB action...but it's been 2 and a half days...

just curious about those of you who give miralax...what kind and how much do you give?

he weighs 10.5 lbs...

I've given 2 doses of metronidazole...every 12 hrs started last night at 8 pm...
don't know if that has any bearing on the issue, but that's the only med he's on (for minute amts of blood in his stool)
...and havent changed his food...

thanks in advance for input!

Samantha saw the vet a few weeks ago for constipation, and the vet said to give 1/4tsp once a day to start and adjust from there based on her reaction. For the first few days, it didn't help, so I started giving her 1/4tsp twice a day. That did the trick for her. She's 15lbs, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not. I stopped it after a few days and she seems to be ok. She did drink quite a bit more when she was on it since it pulls fluid in to soften the stool. I bought ClearLax from Walmart. Same as Miralax, but a good amount cheaper.

Good luck!

I hope Binkster feel better soon! The Miralax always works with Maggie when she's on an antibiotic and constipated. (((Binks))) and (((Celi)))

Celi: sorry I didn't get to this yesterday. Hope Binks is better today.

I use two different things....more natural...for constipation. I love using slippery elm bark powder and make a syrup. It's very very soothing to the intestines and it has never failed me in helping the constipated elders. In fact, they were getting it every day but Gus seems to be doing fine without it now. For Teddi, I had to switch her because even tho it was keeping her regular, my NRT vet found it was stimulating her thyroid. That doesn't mean it does it to every cat....it actually hasn't ever done it to any of my cats but Teddi is already hyperT. So the vet put her on Systemic Formulas aloe vera. I do believe you have to get it through a vet or doctor but it's been working just great for her and it is extremely palatable. You might be able to google it and order it from someone other than the company...I just get it from our vet:

Aloe Vera

My two got 1/8 tsp each every day of Miralax & it always worked!! Hope Binksy get unclogged!
Giant Hugs from us!! Miss you so much!

wow...thanks, everybody!

he must have read his condo and not liked the options...he unloaded in grand style last night on his own...
and blood not included!

That Binks, always testing you!!
Hi Celi. We miss you, too. Hope that Binksy is all over whatever it was that was bothering him. Have you tried yogurt (plain, Greek style)?
Rusty sends love to you all. How are the girls?

Thanks for asking...the girls are well...
Annie is GREAT, and Smudge will be seeing Mandy Moore-vet monday...at which time we'll know whether she just has anal gland issues or if her
arthritis is horribly more painful.

hoping for the former, of course...but during the "abusive ex-husband" phase...(my sister's, not mine), she was thrown quite forcibly against a door jamb...and while it didnt break her back,
she suffered a severe sprain, so i fear she may be seeing the long term effects of that.

she's getting lots of cuddle time though, so she and little Annie Fannie are in heaven...they dig having a family :-D

binks wishes we were still family with his manxie and boxer guys, and had never met tortie-ladies...but he's dealing...
