    Yesterday’s post

Another sign that RK seems to be feeling better: this morning when she saw me coming, she got up and had a big long stretch. That’s the first time she’s done that since diagnosis. It’s such a random thing but one which I didn’t realize how much I missed seeing until she did it. It was a good start to the day.

She then informed me that this morning’s low-carb breakfast fare was unacceptable  so I had to break out the FF gravy lovers (which she dove in to immediately). Of course she’s doing that with a ‘HI’ AMPS. Cats.

Question: I’ve held off on giving mid cycle R a couple of times recently when the BG was holding relatively steady only to end up with a black PS a couple of hours later. But then yesterday’s AM cycle stayed relatively level all of the way through to PMPS. Are you seeing anything in the data that might help determine in those situations when to give/not give R? Food is, of course, a variable at the moment but I try not to feed MC or HC after mid-cycle. @Wendy&Neko @Bron and Sheba (GA)

She is training you well with the food:joyful::joyful::joyful: …typical kitty!!
Can’t see any obvious answer to the R question.
What about the sliding scale Wendy gave you for using R?
It looks like when there’s a black preshot the BGs don’t go down to blues and mostly stay in pink, occasionally yellow.
Does that help with deciding if to shoot or not?

There's a difference between a bounce and loss of duration. R is OK to use to try to take the bounce numbers down a notch, or put the lid on a bounce when it's starting. When she skyrockets at the end of the cycle (like last night) but comes right back down again the next cycle, that's an indication of loss of duration, not a bounce. And yes I get that this is much easier to see in hindsight than at the time before you've seen the next cycle action. It's also OK not to give R if you aren't sure if it's the right thing to do. Rather not give R than be wrong about giving R. Especially when her ketones seem relatively OK. (antijinx)

I still think over 400 and rising is good for R, or if you see her really going up and over 300. I'm still trying to figure out what PM of 5/6 was. If I have more after I ponder this a bit, I'll comment more.

Well today went sideways pretty rapidly. :(

Spreadsheet to be updated once I get back in, but basically RK bounced back to HI after today’s yellow number, ketones popped up to 1.6, she feels more dehydrated than usual, and she doesn’t want to eat. I gave subQ fluids, ondansetron, mirtaz, and her antibiotics. And just because the universe has a warped sense of humor, the ondansetron got stuck in the back of her throat and as she chomped around trying to dislodge it a couple of her teeth got whacked, she squawked, and a chunk containing two teeth and some tartar fell out into her food. She was a bit traumatized over the whole ordeal so went into hiding in her kitty house.

I put the food in with her and am giving her some time to decompress, but will syringe feed later if needed. Hopefully we can put the brakes on the ketones. I know they’re not high yet, but she does have a track record…

Are we havin’ fun yet?
