Sorry you are feeling worried. I understand, since her values are quite high. She is very new to the treatment, and the right dose has not be found yet. Unfortunately you need to proceed by increasing the dose slowly, so you need to give more cycles at 0.5 until you can increase again. Have you considered switching to the TR method?

Brian's caregiver was also very worried, and Brian was all on red. Slowly the found the right dose and things turned around.
I hope the same works out for Lisa!
 
You got some good, safe green numbers last time you were on this dose but because one of them was under 90, and you are on SLGS, a reduction was required. You need to stay on this current dose one week until you can increase being on SLGS. If you switch to TR you will be able to increase more often but you cannot take a reduction unless Lisa drops to 50 or lower which I was never comfortable with. I am on SLGS because it usually (jinx) takes Susie a few days to reflect an increase. I have modified my SLGS to allow me to take a reduction at anything under 70 (not 90). You can't modify TR. Give your girl a few days. She has only been back on the .5 units since last night. Let's see if it helps to bring her down. If it doesn't and you want to switch to TR you can do that. Just notify everyone in your spreadsheet and signature. Hang in there. You are new to this group and folks will help you.
 
But Dionysia, I know that you work, so I am not sure that you can get the mid-cycle test in during the day to follow the Tight Regulation protocol? This is a marathon and not a sprint. You will have to let this dose settle in for a bit. Sorry.

It is scary, I know. Are you testing her for the presence of ketones? At these high numbers, I would. Is she eating well? That’s very important.
 
Yay. I'm so glad you are here to advise, Bhooma! I hated to see a decrease in Lisa's insulin since she obviously needs more insulin at this point.

Dionysia will be three hours and 30 minutes behind your time, but I'm hoping that the time difference between you two will be a lot closer than it is for those of us in the U.S. -- and that might help with communication?
 
I am glad you increased. Your schedule makes it tough to increase too fast until we have enough data and maybe can convince your mom to test. This takes patience and we need to learn her patterns and how she reacts to carbs.
 
Thank you so much for your replies, I am sorry I just feel worried for my kitty and look forward to some better values! Lisa eats well, I haven't tested for ketones I will look into it. I can't measure +6 every day. My mom can't test, she is afraid of blood, it is not possible. But please let me know if and how I can modify the slgs protocol to help my baby! Can I do the reductions only at below 70? Can I reduce minimum time on the same dose if values don't improve? Your words are giving me so much courage!Can the reduction have negative effects in the results in the future?

Lisa had an ear infection in the beginning of March. This is when she was out of remission.

The infection was treated with surolan
Drastic ingredients:
Miconazole Nitrate 23 mg
Prednisolone Acetate 5 mg
Polymyxin B Sulfate 5500 I.U. (equals to 0.5293 mg)
Other ingredients
colloidal anhydrous silica, liquid paraffin.

The ear infection is back. This is what Lisa's ears look like now:

Could this infection affect her blood glucose?

I'm glad you increased. If you stay on SLGS you have to hold the dose for 7 days. The medications and/or infection could certainly be influencing her BG. I have always heard that steroids are not good for a diabetic cat but that is between members of this group, you and your vet. If you do switch to TR, so you can increase sooner than 7 days, then you can always switch back to SLGS later. It can be a tough decision but based on how high Lisa is you may want to go to TR so you can make changes sooner. If you do go back to SLGS, when kitty gets better BG numbers, you can officially change the reduction number to something lower than 90 - if you want. It is important that you are comfortable with this process but it is equally important to get kitties numbers down much, much lower than what you are seeing.
 
I'm sorry. This is why I should not be giving advise. If you switch to TR you will need to be able to check Lisa's blood more often. Do you work? Are you able to stay up at night when she goes low?
 
You are like me. I used to love to go to bed early but I always wanted to at least get the +2 so I make myself get up at 5:30 am just so I can make sure Susie gets her shot at 6:00 am and then again at 6:00 pm. Then I can get a +2 at 8:00pm and hopefully go to bed or know to set my alarm clock for later.
 
When you get a drop at +2 like you did tonight, it means that she will go lower in the cycle and more tests will be needed. Feed her a little low carb food every hour/after every test to keep her from going too low.

It's great to see those blues again! :-)
 
what +2 value is considered low enough to start feeding and measuring every hour?and what can I do if I am at work and cannot continue measuring?
