5/1 Haley -Trial Day 12- AMBG 106, +3.75 96, PMBG 106, 3.25 84

Hi Shirley, I can see Haley’s BG have been creeping up a bit as the days have gone by. I’ve asked a couple of other experienced people to have a look. We want Haley to have a strong remission.
Are you giving snacks during the cycles? When you get a blue preshot number, test at +3 to see if the pancreas is bringing down the BGs.

Hi, Bron. Ty for checking in. Yes, I’m giving her snacks. How often should I be giving them to her, just to make sure I’m doing enough. I’ve either been testing at +3+4. I’ve recorded them on her spreadsheet. Please let me know how often I should be giving her her snacks. I had run out of Fancy Feast food for a few days but I was giving her Friskies pate. It seems that those were the days that her BG went up. Then I bought some Fancy Feast and gave it to her right away and the next time I tested her she went green and then once again. So I thought it was the food. Then the next three times she went blue. But she hasn’t had much of an appetite. So, please let me know how often I should be giving her snacks. I either give her a little bit of her food or a piece of tuna. Ty!

Hi Shirley,
I would give her a snack at +2 or 3 and again at +5 or 6. I would also give a small snack at +9 each cycle to see if you can bring down the preshot BG.
If you can record in the remarks column what and when you give the snacks it helps us to see what is happening. Thanks
How long has her appetite been off?

Hi, Bron. That's pretty much what I do. I'll be sure to stick to that. I'll record everything on her SS remarks. I had done that this morning in the first post on the page. Her appetite had been off the 2 days in the last 4 days. I think it's because she was getting tired of the Friskies pate. I had run out of Fancy Feast and her appetite has been better since I bought some the day before yesterday. Ty very much for your help!

I have spoken to a few of the others.
Are you giving a snack at +9 during the night?.......this can help bring down the AMPS number. Also are you giving a +9 snack during the day?
What we would like to see is how Haley goes with regular snacks through out the day and evening and a +snack at +9 for both the am and the pm cycles.
Are you able to do that?.
Then we can make a decision as to whether Haley might just need a little bit more insulin to support her pancreas.

Hi, Bron. Yes, I am doing either a +8 or a +9 in the early morning and afternoon for her snacks. I set my alarm for 4:30am or 5:30am. Last night, I even stayed up until 4:30am. I also give her a snack at PM +3. All my kitties bug me for a snack before bed.

Shirley has been chatting with me occasionally (no dose advice or anything forbidden on the board) and I told her yesterday that it may be that Haley is going to need a little more juice for a little longer so she's prepared for that if it's necessary. She's done everything the people here have asked her to do regarding snacks (including getting up at 5am to give a +9 because she's afraid her other cats would eat the food if she used her autofeeder.)

I'm sure if you told her to dance naked around a bonfire waving a rubber chicken over her head, she'd do it if it would guarantee Haley would go OTJ....(hey, there's something we haven't tried!...LOL)

As much as it breaks our hearts, I'm thinking it may be best for her to go ahead and go back on insulin at .1 and see if that can give Haley's pancreas a little more healing time. Opinions?

@Wendy&Neko suggested a day of regular snacks and the +9 snacks to see if that helps but it seems that Shirley is already doing that and the numbers are not improving. So maybe she should go ahead and try the 0.1 U bd and see if that brings down the numbers. Better to do it now because it’s much harder later once they have been in remission for a while.
