5/1/22 CALI AMPS 93, PMPS 174, +4 119, +9 55

Thanks Elise and good morning to you. This “do over” family is determined and Cali’s body is very much trying to cooperate. My fracticious sugar baby does have a strong drive to survive. Even the original veterinarian who diagnosed her said she was the most determined [and intimidating] cat he and his staff had ever encountered. He owns two CAT clinics. He was almost positive that we would not be able to administer insulin to her, and certainly not test at home. In her condition at diagnosis, he gave her 2 weeks to maybe 1 year to live. Well, she proved him wrong once she got her beans on board!

BTW, why does my post never have a bullet?

Early onset again or ? ACTIVE AM CYCLE :D

@ +2.5 [61] fed 2tsp LC & pinch 15% FF. Since. Early active cycle, would have started with pinch of 13% but we were bit hyper as Cali was outside on deck enjoying sunshine. Although one door open, she came to kitchen door closest to us and started screaming to open. When we did she rapidly gimped to test/feed designated counter. Jumped up, still screaming for food. I guess her body panics a bit too, because in this state, she growls and scarfs her food morsel. But don’t try to take away or even move dish to add. Really growls then. One satisfied, grooms, jumps down and back to window to finish sunbathing. We have always laughed at her food growling, so we may have reinforced behavior at early age. But this is feral action when BG is low. So happy her body has alert system! Thanks

will keep testing on. Any advice on where you can buy new cat ears. Hers look a bloody bruised mess at the present. Don’t want the pet police to think we are engaging in feline violence. :arghh:

Early onset again
Her onset seems to be between +2 and +3.

You could try applying some pure coconut oil. Do you avoid the marginal vein? Poking the marginal vein can cause some bruising. You may also want to experiment with the guage of the lancet (higher one) or the depth of the poke if you are using a lancing device.

From the sticky on Testing and Shooting Tips :
Ear Care
Since our kitties must endure so many tests, what are some ways to take care of the ears?
  • Hold a wet, cool baby washcloth on the poke site immediately after the test to prevent bruising.
  • Put Emla cream on the test sites after each test. It only takes a tiny dab and you can wipe it off before the next test. Emla cream requires a prescription from your vet. Neosporin with has been found to contain a toxin to cats, polymixin and should be avoided.
  • You can purchase Ledum 30C homeopathic remedy at any health food store. Dissolve one tablet in a small bottle of pure water and then apply one or two drops to each ear every day. Ledum is great for puncture wounds.

Happy May Day or night to you Bhooma.
I do use Vaseline not every time though. Her ears are always like my hands ice cold so we always have to microwave heat the rice socks. Her left ears bleeds more easily and is more convenient for my husband to restrain Cali as he has limited functionality in his right hand from tractor accident. I definitely go for the outside edge of the ear, NOT the vein. I freehand poke and do have two sizes lancets although we keep going back to the relion thin 26guage. 31 gauge requires more attempts. As you can gleam from her avatar, her ears are almost translucent without a lot of hair. I’ll try coconut oil tonight [so she doesn’t sunburn them. Makes me wonder how the feral kitties that have notched ears or cancerous ears fare if diabetic. I imagine pad pads would be almost impossible. Wish I could send you a video of this little diva when testing or eating. All those u-tube videos are laughable how easy it seems for the submissive kitties. Our was meant for us!

Also training on AF with snack pinches. She has become so accustomed to us being her AF, I wouldn’t rely on it yet throughout the night. My iPhone alarm is more reliable at this point when I program it correctly. Will continue training with various foods/treats and holders. Also have to locate my instructions to program when evening feeding time more repeatable.

loving those greens though.
Giving Cali a mini break. PMPS next test, feed & insulin.

Sea of green I love it!
Thank you for stopping in Melissa. Appreciate the support. As you can see, Cali has been keeping us on our toes day and night for the past numbers of days. She has her own rules for every guideline published. And she likes to change it up. Don’t be a stranger. We love your input.

I am always lurking and scanning, just don't always get a chance to chime in ;) she's looking really good, spreadsheet looks pretty typical for a cat settling down. Fingers crossed another month or so and it'll be fairly smooth sailing for you!

sure looking forward to that!
PM tentative plan: snack @+2, test and snack @ +4, snack @+7, test & snack @+9. Calgirl may have other ideas and we will adjust as needed.

I’m thinking you are correct. I have tried to really hold the MC to pinches [and she has only consumed less than 2oz total MC over the past 4 days and AF training]. My reduction is @ 40 correct since I am L/T diabetic? On the positive side, doesn’t a reduction mean good things happening? I trust your advice and intuition. Thanks Bhooma.
