Re: how long before a vial goes bad?

If it's kept in the fridge, probably 6 months. I don't really know. Our main concern with vials is that it gets a lot of needle pokes and bacteria or something could contaminate it after a while.

Do you have an old vial?

Re: how long before a vial goes bad?

It's probably fine. I'm pretty sure I've read of someone on the board using a vial longer than 6 months. It really depends on the handling, IMO. Maybe do a board search for Levemir vial and see if you can fine others who've posted about this.

I've discovered the board search is pretty good, if you're willing to spend some time reading through threads to find what you're looking for.

I had a vial of lev that clearly lost it's potency within 2 months. If you're numbers are going downhill it never hurts to try a new vial. It's an easy (not cheap, though) fix if that's the problem!

Good to know. The unfortunate thing is that we have no control over how the insulin was handled before we received it.

Re: how long before a vial goes bad?

My vial of Lev is from Dec 2010. Replaced it and see no difference so far, but then again, we are in infection mode.
