Hey Beth - did I miss something when I was gone last week? Pancreatitis diagnosis?

I'm wondering why you think she will be back to .5u? You are a long way from there now and I would be very careful about raising the dose - it would be too easy to raise her too fast. You just added 50% more insulin with tonight's dose, so let that settle.

You definitely don't want another 26 - or to get the BG swinging again from low to high and back.

How was her appetite on the 26th? She had a PS of 428 and was at 80 at 7 - then what happened that night? No test/no shot? Maybe fill in the notes section. That will help you later as much as it helps us now. Anyway, that was on a dose of .1u, so she is still getting a lot of action out of a very small amount of insulin. I think she is still headed OTJ (antijinx!)

Thanks for the update, Beth. Glad she's feeling better and is eating better. I'm sure that's a relief, despite all the meds.

I really think fluids are not used or recommended enough, so I'm glad she felt better afterwards. Did you ask about doing them at home? One of the treatments for pancreatitis is sub-Q fluids. It is also a skill that most cat owners should have under their belt because depending on the illness fluids can really help. I was very intimidated by it, but knew some day I'd have to do it. That day came sooner than later (I've been giving fluids since '08) and now I give them to both Tigget & Gandalf without a problem. Except last night when the needle fell out of Gandalf and stuck me in the bare leg since I sat on a chair beside the counter with my legs crossed!! I think I even got a little fluid 'cause there was no water going down my leg and I had to pull it out, which it then bled like crazy and now there's a little blood spot under my skin.

So lesson is - if you give sub-Q fluids, do so with pants on :lol:

Vicky, thanks - now everyone will be REALLY intimidated by sub-qs! ohmygod_smile

I just have to say that I have given sub-qs to two cats and never stuck myself in the leg (or anywhere else). :mrgreen:

I agree that every pet owner should know how to do sub-Q fluids. It really is easy if the cat cooperates. If not, there are tricks like putting the cat into a box with sides higher than their heads and hovering over it so they can't jump out. Of course, like with BG testing, treats work wonders.

It's been a while since I've been around. I'm sorry Bud hasn't been feeling well, but it sounds like she's on the right path. She's got a good mama.
