Hello everyone. My name is Melissa an my sugar kitty is Kona.
I have a question for the group…
I just returned from an overseas trip and while I was away my cats bg was HIGH for 4 days straight! Only dropping to 18 mmol. I’m back and his sugars have dropped to normal levels. But he seemed a little lethargic and off when I got home. He still ate, although unusually slowly and since his levels have now dropped I’m wondering if I should be worried about him? He seems a little better today, but should I be worried about his acidity levels or potassium being off or anything really?
It’s Thanksgiving Monday in Canada so I can’t contact a vet. Just wondering what the group has to say about my situation.
Thanks for any help!!

I am so sorry it took so long to reply to you. You had posted on as forum for technical issues where not many people look.

First, how is your kitty (name?) now? Are you home testing him for urinary ketones? They are typically amongst the first signs to worry about DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis). This post tells you how to test for ketones: Tips to catch and test a urine sample

I had a cat who was frequently high as it took a while to find a dose that would bring her into better numbers. She did OK, just drank and peed a lot until we got to a better dose.

Can you tell us a bit more about you? What insulin you are using? What food are you feeding? Are you home testing?
