Hi everyone
Just a quick question

Is anyone out there treating both Diabetes and Arthritis?
If so, what are you giving them for the arthritis?

Thanks for any input

You can use the search function in the upper right to find the previous discussion s on this subject. Caretakes tend to use:
Cosequin/Desiquin
Adequin injection
Bruprenex.

In case you're searching, Dasuquin, Adequan and Buprenex or Buprenorphine are the correct spellings.

Dasuquin is an advanced form of Cosequin ingredients. Made by Nutramax, available online, no veterinarian approval needed. You empty the capsules in their food.
Adequan is off label for cats, approved for dogs. Needs a prescription. Very small dose is needed.
Buprenorphine/Buprenex is a narcotic, and not for long term use.

Another treatment you might consider is acupuncture. Gandalf is arthritic and receives bi-monthly Adequan injections and acupuncture treatment. His arthritis is stable and he will be 18 next month, diabetic for over 6 years.

You might be surprised how he does with acupuncture. I put off doing it for a long time because Gandalf does not like going to the vet. He does not act out, but gets very nervous. He internalizes everything so it raises his BGs too.

But he lays there and closes his eyes. He grumps when the vet messes with his legs, but otherwise he's very tolerant of the procedure and the needles never bother him.

I feel it has stabilized his condition. His regular vet noted his spine looked more inline than on previous Xray after about 6 months of treatments. Make sure you get a vet licensed to do acupuncture.
