DC didn't get any Bupe yesterday. The vet wants me to bring him in at 1:30pm today.
I gave him his pepcid today and he puked (not clear, but food colored) 5 min later, so I'm not sure if he got any benefit from it or not.
His BG's are the highest they've been in 14 months.
I'm going to give him his SubQ fluids and then try to syringe feed him in a bit.

yesterdays condo:

Awww .. poor DC! Poor you! I hope the vetty visit goes well and I hope DC's numbers come down and his tummy issues clear up .. (((hugs to you both))))

Re: 4/9 DC AMPS=403

Have you joined the yahoo pancreatitis support group?

Is DC on ondansetron for nausea? Cerenia is good for vomiting but not general nausea. Many pancreatic cats are on both of these.

If DC does have pancreatitis he should stay on the bupe, I'd think. Ahhh I just read that bupe was making you nervous. I'll leave this to the pros.

Have you syringe fed DC yet? It is something that takes some practice. There is a great article on this if you join the Yahoo Feline Assisted Feeding site. Its one of the auto files you are sent when you register for the group. There is also a video on the home page of a cat being assist fed.

Can the vet teach you how to do subQ fluids at home?

Sending you and DC huge hugs.

Re: 4/9 DC AMPS=403 +3.5=326 +9.5=241 vet update

I took DC to the vet this afternoon.
We had more pukus in the car just before we left the vet to come home.
She gave me Cerenia to give him for the nausea. I need to give it to him daily for the next 5 days.
He had the injection @ AM +4.5
She also gave me some Mirtazapine for his appetite but told me not to use it until tomorrow because she wants to see if he will eat on his own with just the anti=nausea.
He just ate about 1/8 can of LC. That's the first time he's even been interested in food for a while.
I gave him SubQ fluids @ AM +1 & +9.5
Hopefully this will help and he'll eat more this evening.
His BG has come down substantially since the Cerenia so it obviously did something.

Yes I did, but I haven't really had time to be on there.

He is only on the Cerenia for now.

The vet doesn't think he is in any pain. He doesn't care if you press on his tummy or that area. She told me that if I want to try it again, to cut the dose in half to 0.2mg

I have been syringe feeding at home. DC hates having anything put in his mouth, that's the only problem I'm having with it. He just fights with me and then hides for hours after.

They already taught me to do the fluids at home and I have been. Although DC is still drinking a fair bit of water.

I hope so too. I am now officially broke and am totally out of funds. I had to borrow money for this vet visit.
Thankfully I have enough cat supplies to last until the end of the month.
I don't even have enough gas in the car to get to the vet again, it's about a 60km trip.

I hope the treatments will make him feel better.

On the bupe....it is a liquid right? Then do you mean she told you to reduce it to .2 ml..not mg?

Sending DC more healing vines.

Re: 4/9 DC AMPS=403 +3.5=326 +9.5=241 vet update

I would post your last update to the pancreatitis group. Pancreatitis is extremely painful even if a cat doesn't flinch when their belly's are touched. They will have advice on what options you should try. Maybe tramadol would be an option for example.

Cerenia will stop vomiting but isn't very good at dealing with nausea. I would add ondansetron or dolasetron to the mix before you go with mirtzapine if you can. You want nausea addressed 100%. And don't focus on eating on his own as the solution. Mirtzapine, (we call it meowzapine on the FAF board) can cause agitation, but also food aversion. Syringe feeding is a great thing if you can manage it. You do want to get at least a 5.5 oz can of food in, plus enough insulin and fluids (for pancreatitis). So keep testing for ketones just in case.

Many vets prescribe way too much mirtz. Maybe others can help you make sure the dosing isn't too much.

Watch for signs of nausea.... showing interest in food but just licking or sniffing and walking away, lip licking, lip smacking, and teeth grinding. If you give an appetite stimulant without fully addressing nausea it can backfire. Food aversion can be caused - it would be like giving you an appetite stimulant with the flu. Cerenia would stop the vomiting but you still feel sick. You'd eat the chicken noodle soup, because you are chemically induced to do so. After you recover you will probably never touch the stuff again. Sorry to sound like a broken record about this, being active on the assist feeding group we see food aversion and its impact.

Sorry, yes it is liquid and I meant .2ml

Re: 4/9 DC AMPS=403 +3.5=326 +9.5=241 vet update

punkin's dose has been .2ml, but i've also heard of smaller doses. if .2ml is too much still, you could always try a little bit less.

The vet told me the Cerenia was for the nausea. As for the mirtz, I'm supposed to hold back on it until he has been on the Cerenia for at least 24 hours.
I will post the update to the pancreatitis group, thanks.
I have been syringe feeding him the Medi-Cal Recovery that the vet gave. It has extra calories in it. He still hasn't been getting anywhere near 5.5 oz

Re: 4/9 DC AMPS=403 +3.5=326 +9.5=241 PMPS=252 vet update

DC just ate a bit more LC on his own.
I'm probably still going to have to syringe feed him some before bed, but it's nice to see him at least show some interest in food.
I think he ate about 1/8 can this time.

Get well soon DC! Eat a bit more & you'll be getting better!

I'm glad DC ate some food on his own. I'll keep sending eating vines to him.
