just checking in to see how Tommy is doing today. That was quite a bounce, but hopefully he will clear it quickly. The PMPS looks promising.
I think there was a discussion in your condo not long ago about Humulin R. Have you thought about picking some up? I don't think you would need to use it all the time, but it might not hurt to have it on hand for when Tommy decides to bounce to the moon. It might help keep his bounces lower and help him get through them faster. Now that he is starting to see some better numbers, we want to keep showing him those numbers over and over again. We don't want him deciding to run back to his nice familiar high numbers and getting stuck there again.
R is a fast-acting insulin that is occasionally used as a bolus along with Lantus. It is quick in and quick out of the system, and is very powerful. It can be used to take the edge off the very high numbers so the Lantus can work better.
Humulin R should not be used without guidance, because even a very small drop can pack a punch. Some of us here have used R with our cats, and we can help you learn to use it safely. If you're interested just let me know. Humulin R can be bought without a prescription at most pharmacies for less than $50. The vial will last a long time, pretty much forever really.
You would need the R insulin, syringes with 1/2 unit markings, and lots of test strips. Have syrup and high carb food on hand just in case. We would start during a cycle when you are home to test a lot and ONLY if Tommy is at the beginning of a bounce. We would just use it in tiny amounts to help take the edge off the higher numbers, not necessarily to try to get him to go too low (usually a good goal is to find an R dose that will give a maximum drop of about 100 points). What do you think?
