Hello Lantus Land! Our thoughts and prayers are with Carolyn and BigMac these days, they've been through so much!

I missed last month's update...but today is Muffin's 17 month OTJ annifursary! :RAHCAT There have been major changes around my house (my daughter and 2 granddaughters moved in with me) and the furkids are :o   :-x cat(2)_steam angry(2)_cat about it. However, they ARE adjusting...at least none have gotten so stressed out they've been sick. Muffin confines herself to one room most of the time. In the evenings I can usually get her to come into my bedroom with me. And she still gets a little playtime while the girls are at preschool and the kittens are outside. I feel bad for the kitties, and a bit guilty, but what can I do? Muffin seems to feel good, and is still her purry lovey self, I just get less of her company, which breaks my heart.

Oscar and Cleetus are turning 1 year old on the 20th! party_cat I can't believe it's been so long already. They have both turned themselves into indoor/outdoor kitties, against our wishes, but with 3 and 5 year old girls in the house, I can hardly blame them. Oscar was determined to go outside, and no matter what we did, he'd end up getting out eventually. So I gave in. Then when Cleetus realized Oscar was going out every day, he wanted to go too! We just have to be careful not to let Cleetus in the front yard, as he doesn't seem to climb fences yet. There's a hole in the fence where he can get into the neighbor's backyards, and so far, that seems to be good enough for him. He's much more timid than Oscar when it comes to outside noises, so I'd rather he stay in back. Although one night, during a particularly heavy rainstorm (for us) he was stuck up in a tree in the next-door neighbor's backyard! We could hear him screaming for help, but there was no answer at their door. So, I called the fire department. They arrived pretty quickly, but apparently the sound of the truck coming up the street was enough to scare him down!  By the time they pulled up to the house, he was safely out of the tree. Oscar, on the other hand, isn't afraid of much. I was across the street today talking to my neighbor and their boxer, Tigger, and Oscar came running right over, marched right up to Tigger and touched noses with him. Tigger loves other animals, and knows how to not scare smaller ones, but I don't think I want to encourage Oscar to approach strange dogs like that...

A bit of worrisome news on Shnookie....Last year he was diagnosed with a mild heart murmur. I took him for a check up in Feb, and his T4/free T4 came back in the grey zone. They also ran a Cardiopet proBNP, which they had done last year as well. Last year it came back at 34, which anything under 100 is normal. This time it came back at 255, suggesting probable heart disease. So off we went to UC Davis for an echocardiogram. In one view, they saw mild thickening of the heart wall and the velocity of the blood leaving his heart is elevated, but at this point, they recommended no treatment. These can apparently be secondary to hyperT, so they recommended getting that under control first, and then if his murmur is still there, they want to see him again in 6 months to a year. I suspect he IS developing heart disease, as the murmur was present a year before the hyperT, and he's only in the grey area. Good news is that he's completely asymptomatic so far. So his regular vet put him on methimazole twice a day, but only at half the dosage he would normally get, since, again, he's only in the grey area. So I'm a little worried about what might be coming, but happy that at least Shnookie has no idea anything is wrong.

Hi guys .. thanks for the update on your gang! Glad to hear the kitties are adjusting to new roommates, and hopefully muffin will start giving more time to you .. Happy Birthday to Oscar and Cleetus! Sounds like they are causing all the typical kitten like problems, though I've never had to call the fire truck on a kitten before :-D Shnookie will be in my thoughts that he remains asymptomatic for a long long time and continues to be happy in life!

Great ACR (all cats report  ) I'm sorry Muffin isn't liking her new roomies though. She will come around. Don't be such a stranger!

Hi Ann, nice report on the whole family. I'm sure in time Muffin will adapt to the new roommates, right Muffin! :-D Too funny with Oscar up the tree and glad he's okay. So sorry about Shnookie and sending some feel better vines. Keep us posted on Shnookie. Have a nice holiday weekend to your family and furbabies.

Anne...I was thinking about you the other day!! Congrats on Muffin's 17 month OTJ annifursary. WOW!!! I can't believe the time has passed so quickly. I"m so glad she is doing well.

Sending many prayers for Shnookie.

Sure miss you and Gracie misses her best girlfriend!

Hi Anne,
So nice to hear from you. You do sound like your household is pretty chaotic! But things will probably settle down, or at least all the kitties and the kiddies will get used to one another. Congrats to Muffin on 17 months (goodness, has it been that long ago that she went OTJ?!). I hope that she and you will get to have more time together this spring. And those kittens sound like a handful. And Shnookie is Shnookie, a terrific kitty. I'm glad that he is keepin' on truckin' and that he is remaining in the "gray zone".

Wishing you all a Happy Easter and a good spring,

Ella & Rusty
