Fred just keeps getting better and better. Yesterday his walking improved and walked the length of the garden and slept on a bench while I pulled weeds. He's grooming himself again, eating is good, stools less runny. He can jump up on the table to steal "Bella's" food - a new achievement!
This morning his gait is almost normal - a slight stiffness but no weakness or sitting on haunches.

Vet tests from Auburn revealed no lymphoma, no blood clots and no bleeding. They are calling it "an event" not a stroke and think it will not recur. The spot on the brain from whatever cause may go away - I'll never know because I can't afford another MRI!! As to that, these tests did at least tell us what it was "not", even if they can't say what it was.

Now to correct BGs. My insulin, kept refrigerated, is in suspended state and not old. I've asked about a ketone test and will follow that up as needed. But he was put through every possible test last weekend and all was normal. I suspect we will see his numbers improve as his strength returns and he feels comfortable. Also, he may have been over-eating in my attempt to keep him alive! I gave a "fat" 1.0 this morning and will see how that plays out. In the past he has responded to higher doses better than lower ones in bringing down BGs. Stress affects him almost instantly.

wish this event could help other, but its hard to say how. Although I'm glad that Fred's recovering, I wish I had waiting at least 24 hrs to see if he improve. The stress of two vet visits, all the tests, and sickness from meds has set him back and we don't know any more than when we started. Observation for a while might have been the best course.

Thanks for all your help.....we'll keep you posted! :-D

Kathy, this is such a wonderful report! I'm so glad to read how much better Fred is feeling - including jumping up on the table to try to steal some food! I know with my sugar boy, "naughty" little tricks like that make me feel like he's returning to his old self.

For what it's worth, I had a human client that had a similar "event" - and that's what they called it -- a "stroke-like event." The doctors couldn't find evidence of a clot, so they described it as a "spasm" in the artery that caused the same effects as a stroke.

I hope Fred's BG's start coming back down with a little insulin boost, and as he starts feeling better.

Happy Caturday!
