Day 5 of .5u...I'll be upping the juice to .75 or 1 on Monday. I want to give him a full 7 days to see if .5 does anything. (I know it brings him to the 200s for a bit lol) Plus go slow is the motto around here right???
Have a great Friday everyone!!!

ECID of course, but I wouldn't go up more than .25 at one time - thats a 25% increase in itself......

TGIF for sure....

Yeah gotta agree that .75u is probably in your near future...so here is the easiest way I have found to measure those inbetween the lines doses. First a disclaimer so we are talking about the same top and bottom..When I say top of a line or plunger I'm talking about towards the next highest number...thus bottom is closer to the needle.

Okay to shoot a .75 instead of lining up the bottom of the plunger with the bottom of .5u line like you are doing now to shoot a .5u, you are going to want to line up the top of the plunger with the top of the 1u line...in most cases the plunger itself is about .2u So when you have it lined up correctly there will be a little bit of daylight between the bottom of the plunger and the .5u line. Make sense?

BTW if I ever say something that doesn't make sense let me know and I will try to explain it so it does. My biggest goal over here is not to tell you what to do and when but to teach you to be able to take charge of caring for Charlie yourself and manage his diabetes on your own so that someday you can pay it forward to the next crop of newbies...So I always want you to understand the whys and wherefores of everything.

Hey MOM-
I really appreciate you taking time out to explain all this to me. I do not have the syringes with half units on there...so I have been pretty much eye-balling it.
I took out a syringe to see and practice what you are saying. I basically just lined the top of the plunger with the top of the 1u line...no .5 to reference. I am comfortable with it. I will definately ask questions if something doesnt make sense. I'm curious to see what kind of difference this makes. I will definitely be posting to show his progress.

Probably when you can you will want to get syringes with the 1/2u marks as they will come in real handy if you have to go to 1.25 or down to .25u. Insulin is a tricky little hormone a drop one way or the other can make a huge impact so the more consistant you can be with your dosing the better.

I have one full box that I got from the vet. After I run out I will get syringes with half units on them. I believe someone told me they have them at Walmart...I'll have to skim through my threads when that time comes.

Yep Walmart has them although if your Walmart is anything like mine they people behind the counter will have no idea that they have them with 1/2u marks...lol

But what you want to ask for is 3/10cc, 30 or 31 gauge, short needles. Almost if not all 3/10 cc insulin syringes will have 1/2 unit marks as they are designed for human children and infants.

That 3/10 CC is the trick - I asked for half unit and ended up with a bunch of 1/2 cc that don't have the markings - and these things aren't returnable.....so do check before you leave the place. I've taken to ordering them online as they are a bit less expensive and I know what I'm getting.
