Yesterday's Birthday Condo

Last evening he looked awful and barely acknowledged that I was there. He turned and faced the corner of the cage and it broke my heart to see him so unhappy. I stayed with him for about an hour and gave him what comfort I could. He did like my presence but seemed very weak and sick. I left the hospital feeling incredibly sad and didn't have the energy to post about it. His blood work numbers hadn't improved much from the previous day.

Today our morning visit extended into an afternoon visit. As soon as I saw him I knew he looked better than last night. :-D
He has been moved to a larger cage and has a litter box so he can get up and walk around a little bit. He stood up for me today and when I opened the cage door he calmly attempted to walk out into my arms. He wants to come home, bless his heart. His purr is audible again and my heart is lifted with every rumble.

His bilirubin has dropped from 5.4 yesterday to 3.3 today. (Normal range is 0.1 - 0.4) So his is still too high but it shows improvement, yeah!! The second surgery must be successful since the bile is probably draining more the way it is supposed to be doing and not backing up into the liver anymore. His liver enzymes are friggin' NORMAL for the first time in at least 2 months!!!!

I still am concerned about his hemoglobin and red blood cells which are too low. And his white count is pretty high. I hope that means inflammation and not infection. I'll ask the doctor at tonight's visit. (I grabbed a printout of his blood work as I left today.)

I admit I am exhausted. Happier, yes, but I guess trying to keep up with regular life as well as hospital visits is taking a toll. Something has to give and right now it is sleep. I'll try to catch up tonight maybe. Otherwise I'll order another case of 5-Hour Energy Drink.

This photo shows him trying to sneak out of his cage today using a belly crawl. As if I wouldn't notice!

aw, look at his sweet little nekked knees! what a boy - and i see a fleece peeking out - you're making the little boy comfy. that's so sweet.

anyone would've been wiped out by what he's gone through. i'm not surprised about yesterday at all - but one day at a time. maybe he's sleeping well and finally beginning to recover. yay on the improved blood work!

i'm so glad you posted. :YMHUG:

Oh Carolyn, thank you for the update. I have been waiting all day. Big Hugs to you.
Your description reminds me of when J.D. was hospitalized. He only showed little improvements at first.
Then he was moved to a larger cage, and I could sit on the floor next to him and open the cage door, and he practically leapt into my lap (with a tube attached to each leg). Slowly, slowly, he got better. I hope for the same for BigMac, I mean, consistant improvements, until he can finally be released. More Hugs. Sleep well, my friend. I've always wondered about them energy drinks.. :-D

Bless his heart. And yours too. Please get some much needed rest Carolyn. I'm glad today is a better day for BigMac.

Sending you some sleeping vines. And some fries ....oops....I mean healing vines for BigMac.

GET SOME REST!!!!

I wish we were all closer .. so we could take turns being there for bigmac and you .. But for now, please remember to take care of yourself .. you can't be tired and exhausted when bigmac is finally ready to come home, so please rest up now when you can ok? Bigmac, I think you look so handsome!!!!

NIce to hear of the babysteps progress! Go BigMac. I can't imagine how you are even awake at this point! so exhausting just reading about it all! Sounds like your boy is starting to plan his escape so he's obviously feeling better. He probably feels odd being wrapped up like a burrito at the moment!

great news re the liver function! The rest will come, no surprise re the white count, probably his body is in 'battle stations' mode ready to leap on any alien bugs that invade!

hope to hear more good news tomorrow! Thanx for updating (and wow, just plain WOW on the youtube vids you do for OTJ parties! truly impressive, doubly so given what you are up against at the moment!)

Awww Carolyn, God love your sweet baby, trying to crawl out of the cage. I know how much that hurts you.
Checks was hospitalized last year, and it hurts so much to walk away after the visit.
Great big gentle hugs to you, and scritches to your sweet boy.

poor baby, trying to crawl outta there!
Go Big Mac!!
((((Carolyn))))) thank u for updating, you know I'm sending more healing positive good thoughts your way.
Hoping he can home soon too!!

I am sooooo glad that Bic Mac is better today. And much better test results too! Big Mac is in my prayers and so are you. Please take care of yourself too. ((((HUGS))))

Aw...he's a burger and a burrito at the same time.

BigMacster...we know how bad you want to come home, sweet buddy- hang in there till it's safe!

I can't even imagine how exhausted you must be, Carolyn.

I CAN however, weigh in on the energy drinks.
You look to be about my build- so I suggest one can of Monster.
I drank one while working in the pharmacy one day...
and was bouncing off the walls and clinging to the ceiling for a good 11 hours.
Mind you- I couldn't focus, got NOTHING done, and drove everyone else in the store bonkers- but I was AWAKE!
I have been banned from reaching for a Monster for the rest of my natural days

Glad to hear such an encouraging update...your hope and relief come through in your post :-D

Rest well, lady...as we all keep the healing vibes coming to you in waves.

celi, binks, and 'dem gurlz'

Keep fighting the good fight, Big Fella!!

(((((Carolyn))))) (((((BigMac)))))
You know how much we are thinking about you: very, very positive thoughts. I can well imagine how exhausted you must be and hope you will get some good sleep tonight, helped along by BigMac's progress. It is wonderful that his liver values are normal again and that the bilirubin is coming down. Everything will return to normal soon. It is a testimony to his extraordinary strength that he has made such good strides forward today.
Continuing to send lots of beautiful healing vines to your boy,

Many hugs,

Ella & Rusty

(((((CD))))) What a great report on your guy! Thank you for posting. Keeping him and you in our thoughts for continued progress on his speedy and complete recovery.

Hi Carolyn!

I'll bet you are tired...hopefully mamabean can get a little rest tonight

Glad to hear that some of his tests are improving!!! That's a good start :-D

Big hugs for you and BigMac!!!

Tanya

PS...Binks...I don't know where you are finding these pics, but they are hilarious! (u wanna peas o dis?)

Tawny pulled thru...Big Mac can too.

Such a positive report today, I am so happy he is purring, that is such a good sign. He may want to come home but I'll bet somewhere inside him he knows he's there b/c you love him so much & that's where he needs to be right now in order to get healthy and come back home. I can just feel your exhaustion in waves wash over me, Carolyn, I remember being so tired when Tawny was so sick that I wasn't sure if I could stay awake to make the hour-plus-long drive to the hospital to go visit her. I remember falling asleep on the visiting room sofa at 11 in the morning with her laying next to me one day...Big Mac is doing better today, good chance for you to try to get some sleep.

He looks really good Carolyn considering all he's been through. Tawny at one point could not even lift her head. Big Mac's eyes are bright, he's still trying to get out of his cage, he's purring. Good boy, Big Mac.

I am glad that things are better today for Big Mac. It is wonderful news that levels are improving. :-D :-D That had made my day. I can only imagine how much he wants to come home, and the toll that ll this is taking on everyone. All one can do is take it one day at a time. He is getting better, and when one thinks what he has been through the ups and downs are to be expected. Hang in there CD. Big hugs to all, scritches to BigMac.

I'm glad to hear that BigMac's tests are improving....a little at a time, he's going in the right direction. I hope you get some rest, Carolyn, you have to be utterly exhausted! Please take care of yourself so you are ready to take care of him when he comes home!

Still sending vines and :YMHUG:

Am I a perve? I love his little naked bits too

Maybe he was just a bit down on you this morning for not taking him home yet - he thinks he is ready bless his ginormous heart.

Nice try on the belly crawl escape Big Mac, it was worth a go but I tells ya these beans of ours they are right on to us :YMSIGH: Hang in there I'm sure it won't be too many more darks now - Vyktor

Hi Carolyn,

You must have felt so bad when he wouldn't look at you yesterday. I'm so glad to hear the good news today. I'm sure everything will start improving now. What a difference a day makes, huh?

You really do have to take care of you too though. When BigMac comes home you'll have to be strong to care for him. I'm sending you strenghth to go with BigMac's healing and strength wishes and vibes.

Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

It's so good to hear your little hamburgler is improving. Fingers, toes, eyes, etc. crossed that everything keeps moving in the right direction.

((((Carolyn)))). Still praying really hard for you here. Great to hear that he was better today. You have to be exhausted. Try to get some rest and know that Big Mac is where he needs to be right now. It will be a long road of recovery but it will bring him back home with you where he belongs.

Every little improvement is a big step forward to complete recovery. BigMac sure wants to come home if he is trying to get out of his cage with all those bandages on. He loves his mamabean so much! Carolyn, I hope you can get a little rest tonight. Praying hard for you and BigMac.

I just got this computer working again. And who do I visit first, of course the BIG GUY! How can it be that I feel like I've fallen in love with your big beautiful boy! He is so special, so sweet, and so in need of lots of healing vines, so I'm sending a truckload full, to you, and BigMac. It broke my heart to read he didn't want to look at you last night. My Daphne does that all the time, when I don't feed her exactly when she wants it. What a statement these little sweeties can make, isn't it!

I hope you can sleep and feel rested for another day tomorrow. I think someone said, I wish we all lived by you, so we can all take turns to sit with BigMac. I for one, would gladly be there, but I guess thats what this board is for. Sending all the white light and prayers I can find and a wish for you to have BigMac home with you soon! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

What a relief, when I first started read I went "Oh no!" , then I got to this morning's report! :-D :-D :-D

All the signs are there that BigMac is on the road to recovery. Now you need to take of yourself too. You too are cut off on the energy drinks, so you can sleep when you do get the chance. We saw what time you posted the OTJ video for Tiki! You need to rest now, BigMac is going to need you when he comes home. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

I-) I-) I-) hint, hint, nudge, nudge

I know both you and BigMac are exhausted, but we're all here to prop you up...lean all you need! Many, many prayers continue for you!

Me the Mother Hen is telling you, no asking you to please get some rest tonite--
So so happy to hear he is better, acting a little spunky, and wants to come home soon!
Energy drinks I think make you more tired later in the day, so by evening you are exhausted..
Time to think of you a little, so that you can be there for your Baby Man!!
Prayers continue, sending Healing Vines to the sweet Boy , hope that he can come home soon!
Hugs & Love from us, Kiddo, continued Cheers from your personal cheering squad-
Get Better Big Mac!! In our hearts! Ni Ni!

Been waiting and checking off and on all day for an update - spoke with Cindy tonight and she asked if there had been one. So glad to see this and see that there is improvement - as was said before - baby steps but that's really good for now. Glad he looks a bit better today - of course his little body is exhausted but he still looks pretty good - love the pic of him trying to "belly crawl" out of the cage. Poor baby.

You must take good care of yourself, my friend - listen to this old lady, okay. One of these days, you'll be able to bring him home and when you do, you'll need your energy to finish helping him heal there - so try to get as much rest and sleep as you can now, okay?

The healing prayers and vibes continue to be sent your way - looks like he's doing miraculously well and for that we're very grateful.

Sending you lots of hugs - will keep watching for the updates.

Emmy & Dude (& Mittsi too)

Ah, Carolyn, I can identify with the back-turning rejection - when they'd bring Scruffy back from chemo treatments, he'd sit in his carrier with his back to the door (and to me!) until we were almost home! They can express their displeasure so clearly.

Today's picture was wonderful, especially the little bare pink knees. I'm so glad that The Burger Boy is gaining strength and starting to have tests and bloodwork that can make you cheer and feel relieved that this ordeal is going to be over in the near future.

Thank you for taking the time out of your exhaustion to update us - you can't imagine how eagerly we're all sitting here waiting for news, and wishing we weren't so darn far away. You take care of yourself, too, and get some rest; you'll need to build up yourself for when they send him home, because he'll probably have a list a mile long of stuff you'll need to do to and for BigMac. (And oh, the thrill of even thinking about that, huh?)

love you both,

I came in for my BigMac heart refill. I hope seeing him today filled yours up some. I know you needed it. He'll get better each day now. Sending you tons of hugs. Hang in there.

I can't add anything that everyone here hasn't already said, so I will just say - sleep well CD and BM, stay strong, get well and come home soon!

(((Carolyn))) I'm so glad to hear the tests are improving and his liver enzymes are normal. Holding you both in our thoughts and prayers. Please get some rest.

Heart filled at another BigMac report! I'm so sorry he had a bad evening the other day... I know how discouraging that must have been for you! Will keep the prayers coming for steady progress for your guy! Much love from us!!
