Yesterday's Birthday Condo
Last evening he looked awful and barely acknowledged that I was there. He turned and faced the corner of the cage and it broke my heart to see him so unhappy. I stayed with him for about an hour and gave him what comfort I could. He did like my presence but seemed very weak and sick. I left the hospital feeling incredibly sad and didn't have the energy to post about it. His blood work numbers hadn't improved much from the previous day.
Today our morning visit extended into an afternoon visit. As soon as I saw him I knew he looked better than last night.
He has been moved to a larger cage and has a litter box so he can get up and walk around a little bit. He stood up for me today and when I opened the cage door he calmly attempted to walk out into my arms. He wants to come home, bless his heart. His purr is audible again and my heart is lifted with every rumble.
His bilirubin has dropped from 5.4 yesterday to 3.3 today. (Normal range is 0.1 - 0.4) So his is still too high but it shows improvement, yeah!! The second surgery must be successful since the bile is probably draining more the way it is supposed to be doing and not backing up into the liver anymore. His liver enzymes are friggin' NORMAL for the first time in at least 2 months!!!!
I still am concerned about his hemoglobin and red blood cells which are too low. And his white count is pretty high. I hope that means inflammation and not infection. I'll ask the doctor at tonight's visit. (I grabbed a printout of his blood work as I left today.)
I admit I am exhausted. Happier, yes, but I guess trying to keep up with regular life as well as hospital visits is taking a toll. Something has to give and right now it is sleep. I'll try to catch up tonight maybe. Otherwise I'll order another case of 5-Hour Energy Drink.
This photo shows him trying to sneak out of his cage today using a belly crawl. As if I wouldn't notice!
