I hope everyone's having a great weekend!

The mirataz worked like a charm yesterday, he exceeded target and is on track to finish this morning at target or above. This morning I found a pretty large hairball, which was probably the cause of yesterday's low eating requiring ondansetron and mirataz. Despite the daily combings with the furminator and regular brush, he is shedding so much. I probably get like 3 hairballs worth a day and still more comes loose. I can't wait until his winter coat is officially shedded.

I think I am going to follow the vet's advice and give a bit of petroleum jelly every now and then to keep things moving. I'm also considering adding egg yolk powder back in but with his temperamental appetite lately I haven't wanted to change anything up.

Also a fun side note: i've been sitting on a bunch of old rolls of unexposed film that we found from my childhood and I finally started sending them in to get developed. While most of results are a little disappointing in quality, there are a few really good ones. It's kind of amazing that I was able to get some memories out of 30+ year old film that went through Hurricane Katrina and everything else in that timespan.

Hoping the hairballs calm down. Sounds like the shedding is the cause as you suggested. He has such a thick beautiful thick coat
I wish Ivy would permit a good hearty brushing. She just hates it (maybe some arthritis in her back, so it could cause her some pain) even though I try to be very gentle.

Love the older photos! Cinnamon--so cute! And I'm glad that the Mirataz did the job and that Xander is eating better.

I recently began giving Jude a probiotic called Visbiome. I've heard here on the forum that it's good, but I'd tried to avoid it because it's so darn pricey, but Jude had been suffering diarrhea, and I wanted to find something effective for that as well as for his poor tummy that has been over-inundated with antibiotics. Jude rarely, if ever, gets hairballs--I've never seen him pass one--but about 3 or 4 days into receiving the Visbiome, he, in very dramatic fashion, threw up an extremely large hairball. I researched online and learned that probiotics can help with hairballs by simply improving digestion. It could just be coincidental, but I think the Visbiome is what got things flowing for Jude. I just wish I could afford it for all five kitties, but *gulp* no way.

He lets me comb him and purrs until he suddenly doesn't want it anymore. I got away with using the trimmer on his too long belly and butt hairs and then he charged at me/bit me afterwards

That's interesting, I may look into that one. Although he only has a hairball every now and then, I have a feeling that the hair he ingests does stay in there and irritate him even if it eventually passes through. Especially during these shedding periods.
