Good Morning and Happy Easter,

today

AMPS 203
+3.25 39
+3.75 36
+4.25 57
+5 46
+6.75 86
+9 136
PMPS 215
+4 234

Stu woke us up this morning by jumping up on the bed, pounding on DH, and nipping me on the arm!! He enjoyed breakfast and immediately went out on the front porch to sit on the table and wait to see if neighbor cat with the pink nose (aka "Pinky" to Stu) shows up. Stu's bg this morning is a nice yellow. Hopefully he won't do a big drop this morning! He's getting himself ready for the Easter egg roll at Shadow & Raja's and is going to cook an Easter egg casserole for all his friends after they find all the eggs. Everyone enjoy the day. We won't be heading out for our paddle/potluck until after nadir time and will be back before PMPS. The weather is gorgeous: not as hot as yesterday, but seasonably warm. Everyone enjoy the day!

Ella & Stu

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203

Where ARE you Stu? Raja is frantic!!! She is raring to go NOW!!
That is barely yellow there...nice things to come today? Maybe when he starts cooking up a storm as usual, he will go lower. I have my instruments of torture here and will watch him for you....Hope you have a Happy Easter!

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203

What a great looking day ahead!
Wonderful Amps for Stu. Beans home through Nadir. Nice Paddle while Stu is off egg hunting and cooking for the crew. Great weather!

Just hope DH doesnt have too bad of a headache from the pounding. Poor guy.

I hope your day is as good, or even better than you expect.

Enjoy!

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again

Stu, whaddya doing with that dramatic drop? It's like you have something to prove...

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again

Oh, ooops! I spoke too soon. Sorry! :?

Ummm...well maybe he will gently bounce by the time you need to leave? ;-)

Whats with these big drop in the beginning? Seems to be a fad around here these days.

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again

Stu has decided that Easter Sunday is a good day to have a big dive. 39 at +3.25. I fed 3 teaspoons of MC and will test again in 1/2 hour. I don't need this today!!

Ella (posts crossed!)

OK Jill!

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again

Hey Ella,
what do you think about getting some +1 and +2's for a few a.m.'s to see where these drops are starting to taking place? Maybe you can hit him up with some extra food or slightly higher carb right around that time to slow those drops. Looking at your ss, some of them are HUGE!!!!

carolyn has a good point. food manipulation is an excellent and often forgotten tool in preventing those fast early drops. loading up the first part of the cycle with food especially right before onset will help to blunt those fast early drops resulting in a flatter curve. the range usually becomes higher, but a little added insulin can bring the entire range down...

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again

whoa Stu!

Seems like a lot of kitties are working hard to get their beans to stay home today.

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again

OMG Stu is at it again.

When Max was doing these early nose dives I would feed him a samller breakfast and then
give him the balance an hour later. feeding smaller portions early in the cycle would
help even out the BG (hopefully) and help Stu from coming down slowly and not plunging.
I would feed Max more evenly in the first 6 hours of the cycle when the insulin was working the most.
In the afternoons, he ate very little.

We will be watching Stu.

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again

Good Morning Ella, obviously I have no advice, since I have the same problems with Checkers in the morning.
I'm looking to see what advice you get. :-D
Hope Stu evens out nicely for you today

this method works well for a variety of reasons. feeding the first half of the cycle tends to blunt the huge drops. not feeding the second half of the cycle when the action of the insulin is waning doesn't hinder whatever insulin action is left in the cycle.

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again, +3.75 36

Still dropping at +3.75 (and we're not even close to nadir!). Fed him HC with gravy (teaspoon). Thanks for the suggestions about +1 and +2 Carolyn & Jill & Randi. Also the advice about splitting up his breakfast into 2 halves. Tomorrow I'll try that and also to get some readings at those earlier times. But I think Stu is angling for another dose decrease. This is the 8th cycle on 1.75. Should I go down to 1.50 tonight?
Ella
The day has been placed on hold for the time being. I may drive DH over to the paddle, however. (He doesn't drive because of his eyesight).

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again, +3.75 36

Jill and Libby are obviously peeking in to keep an eye on Stu but I think your guy has earned a decrease. I'm another person who feeds during the first half of the cycle. Gabby, like Stu, can drop quickly and hard. I feed about 1/8 of a can of FF every couple of hours during the first half of the cycle.

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again, +3.75 36

see how the rest of the cycle goes. if stu bounces hard from these 30s, you might want to shoot 1.75u tonight and then take the reduction in the morning.
glad you fed some hc. let's get his numbers out of the 30s.
see you in 15 minutes...

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again, +3.75 36

Thanks, Sienne. The feeding thing may work. Stu rarely eats all of his breakfast at one time in any event. He may eat more of it if I put it out in stages. (But I may have to get a timed feeder, since our busy season is beginning: we lead paddles and bike rides for our mountain club.)

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 here we go again, +3.75 36

I use a timed feeder. There are lots of days I can't run home from the office to check on Gabby so the feeder is very helpful.

if you get a feeder... my suggestion would be to initially divide up stu's meal into 4 portions and feed at ps, +1, +2, and +3 since he tends to drop early. however, you may have to tweak the schedule to fit his particular needs.

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 , +3.75 36, +4.25 57, whew!

Hi again, We're up to 57 at +4.25. Usually Stu's nadir is between +5 and +6, so I hope he's going to stay OK. I gave him a little more MC (I think he does these drops so he can get Fancy Feast!).

Ella

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 , +3.75 36, +4.25 57, whew!

Stu!!!!! Come on buddy...you need to get yourself ready for the egg rolling party...and don't you have a casserole to make? It's time to surf!

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.25 39 , +3.75 36, +4.25 57, whew!

50s are much nicer than 30s. :-D
good job bringing the numbers up! continue monitoring. he *could* dip again, but with the mc on board and being so close to nadir... he'll probably surf.

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.75 36, +4.25 57, +5 46

+5 a slight drop to 46, but I fed him a MC and LC lunch and he seems fine. Will test again at +5.75. He's getting irritated at being tested! I told him that he had to get on his surfboard to get down to Shadow and Raja's to make the Easter egg
casserole.
Thanks to everyone for such good advice and for watching Stu. Tomorrow I'll get a timed feeder and we'll see how he accepts it.

Ella (we decided to skip the paddle but go to the potluck in the later part of the afternoon). There'll be lots more paddles this season!)

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.75 36, +4.25 57, +5 46

Stu accomplished his goal, he got you to stay home. Now it's time to come up a bit, Stu.

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.75 36, +4.25 57, +5 46

Good morning Ella, sorry I missed all of the excitement while taking my morning "naps"! I think Stu didn't want you to go out today and thought he could manipulate his way into getting some more food. Boy is he crafty!!! Hope you don't get a bounce from this. He must be so excited for the egg roll that he couldn't contain himself! Well hope you have a great rest of the day!!! I'll stop by later!

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.75 36, +4.25 57, +5 46. +6.75 86

Hi again. 86 at +6.75. Well, the excitement didn't quite end. We had planned to test him earlier than now. But the back door apparently blew open while we were having lunch. When we looked for Stu to test him, he was nowhere to be seen. We spent an hour outside looking for him. Neighbors looked, too. We have woods in our backyard and he could have been hiding anywhere. Well, on the last check of the garden, who comes sauntering out of one of the dense bushes? He was within 10 feet of the house the entire time! So we sent him on his way down to Shadow & Raja's and told him not to mess up the casserole and not to use all the green eggs so that everyone would have a green egg to take home.
I think we are, literally, out of the woods now. We'll go to the potluck supper and tell our paddling friends all about it. Fortunately, they are all animal people and will understand.
Everyone, thank you so much for helping us today! I guess that whether I do the dose decrease tonight or tomorrow morning will depend on PMPS. Unfortunately, we won't be home at +11 to see where he is then. But we'll get a +8.75.

Ella

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.75 36, PMPS 215

Hi again. Stu's PMPS was 215, so I took Jill's advice and shot the usual dose (1.75 units; this is the 9th cycle at this dose). Tomorrow morning I will go down to 1.50. Tomorrow morning we will also begin the new feeding regime: smaller portions more closely spaced for the first half of the cycle. I will get readings at +1 and +2, in addition to the usual +3 so we can see when his steep drops occur. (Tomorrow he probably won't have a steep drop, if I know my Stu!).

Thanks again, everyone, for helping us. We had a nice late-afternoon potluck with our paddling friends. Stu came back from Shadow and Raja's with a few green eggs in his basket. He used all the other colors for the casserole.

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.75 36, PMPS 215

Stu with all these crazy numbers! You'd make any other mommy nervous. But not yours...she's calm, cool, and collected. He's definately trying to get your attention, that's for sure.
Sounds like you have a good game plan to me.

We're just checking in on ya'll. thanks for visiting us and the good wishes.

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.75 36, PMPS 215

Wow Ella, you and Stu had quite an exciting day. I'm glad I wasn't here to sit and refresh the page all day, while biting my nails down to the quick.
I'm glad you got to go visit with friends, after all.

Re: 4/4 Stu AMPS 203, +3.75 36, PMPS 215

STU!!!!!!!  WE GO AWAY FOR THE DAY, AND LOOK WHAT YOU DID!!--I specifically asked all kitties to let their owners go out today with no big drops!!!
Well, we are happy you got another dosecrease, but NO SCARIES!!!! Double drops, or super drops!!!

Ella, Moonie eats very little in the mornings now since she is blue & green...She eats less & when she wants(vindictive little thing :o )
so she also can drop low in the early am or pm--Tonite she ate only chicken & may nibble on some food later--BUT She will eat after she feels herself drop(my saving grace!)
Using the food differently does work--I put a small amount behind the couch on a paper plate after her amps & pmps, so she knows it's there when she goes into her office--She doesnt have to go to the "public" food dishes--Picky picky picky girl!
You are doing sooooooooooooo great!! HUGGIES!!!
