4/4 SIUJIM amps (432) ** third cycle of new dose +6 (414) +10 (urine 200mg) pmps (352) ** 4th cycle of new dose, + 1(urine 50mg, just mild)

in the morning, it's quite high. i worried a lot as seems like her past pattern is that the more insulin the higher the sugar.

pmps shows a better sign. will monitor tomorrow.

i realize she is less active and a bit depressed today... perhaps it's the full day stay in the clinic yesterday that stressed her out.
i was with her through out the 10 hrs though.

also, i found it hard to pin her ears as there are many wounds. pinned too much... poor siujim, must be very painful.
is there any other way to take blood sample?
i didn't take the +10 because i couldn't get the blood...

thx.

I have no dosing advice for you but want to welcome you to Lantus land and I know someone will step forward with advice for you but I do know a day at the vets can sure cause stress its always does for my cats :YMHUG: :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon

thx.

the problem is siujim has been on insulin for the last 3 months and vet keeps raising the dose yet with higher sugar.
so, i have to be really careful now.

since yesterday, it's on new dose. will see.

I used to mess up Nova's ears horribly when I first started testing. She never seemed to be bothered by it. The two things that help with me is to put a tiny bit of vaseline on the area first so that the blood pools and I don't need as much to get a test, and to put polysporin / neosporin on after wiping off the blood and vaseline to help things heal. I use the kids brand, because it has a little bit of numbing stuff in it. Not sure if those are options where you are at.

As for where to test, the only alternative to the ear is the paw pads (yuuuuuck in my opinion :) ).. you can use either "edge" of the ear.. either edge of the V (upside-down).. Nova actually bruises a lot less when I use the edge towards the top of her head, rather than the outside edge. You also can poke from the outside of the ear or inside it, whichever is easier for you.

Putting some pressure on the area after you get the test, for 5 seconds or so can also help minimize the bruising.

The big thing is just practice.. you'll eventually master the poking and how much blood you need. Starting testing really sucks, it's way worse then the needles in my opinion.

Oh P.S. - yeah a day at the vets can really muck up the numbers, stress can have a significant effect.. just wait it out and give her extra love :)
