Oh gosh! I can't believe this #!!! I wonder I just had a flattened blood sample, and Maggie jerked when I slid the strip on her ear. I didn't take a second reading, but I wonder now if the meter gives wonky numbers when she jerked away. I know with the ATrak if blood splatters onto the other side of the strip, it gives a misreading! I've already given her some food. Another thing I did last night before bed was give her some FF Turkey & giblets, as this acts as a mc for her. I wasn't feeling well and wasn't sure if I'd be able to get more pokes. Her poor ear also needed a pokey break! All P''s in place, and right now she's on the footstool of the recliner making little sounds like she's dreaming, so cute. I have an early appointment, so will be gone early morning. If she's still high later when I check, at least I'll know she's safe. My Vet is not so sure about me changing to this meter; he really likes my SS and how I track Maggie. Since Relion is a Walmart brand, he's probably not heard of it! I had a call on my cell and just saw the message yesterday. I'll talk more about that later.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 177 Relion

Up at 1am!! When do you sleep, Ann??

Fingers & paws crossed that Miss Maggie comes down soon! Maybe get a comparison OTD check before your appointment?

Description of her seepin noises gives me a smile... think i'll make some of my own!

Hope your appointment goes well!

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 177 Relion

Hope Maggie comes down nice and slow for you so you can run your errands.
Have a lovely Monday and I hope you're feeling better.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 177 Relion

You will get used to the meter. I have found it to be very reliable with tiny amounts of blood :-D :-D

Have a great day!

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 177; +1 165 Relion

Thanks Iorwen. I hope she comes down nice and slow, too...then I won't worry while gone!

Hi Natalia, if only me Vet would feel confident about it! It is great for sipping teeny amounts of blood.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 177; +1 165 Relion

I found the Relion to be fairly reliable for monitoring progress, eventually switched to a different meter that required even less blood.

Relion is used by many in the forums and you & vet will adjust most likely within the week to it. The drawback I found with the Relion was when I added extra blood to the test strip...sometimes the numbers were wonky. Attie didn't always give me enough blood for the strip.

My new meter allows adding blood to the strip for up to 60 seconds. Which is enough time to grab another poke, but it only requires 0.3 mil drop...much less than the relion.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 177; +1 165 Relion

OTD - out the door?

Ann when I don't get enough blood I get a false low reading. I can see if the blood goes to the top of the strip though. SInce your +1 was similar I bet it was accurate. I'd stay strong and have your vet adjust. He's smart and can subtract 30 and the colour coding will make it easier for him  I bet he is missing the margin he'd receive from your purchases.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 177; +1 165 Relion

Good morning guys .. nice blue for maggie today! Sorry to hear you still aren't 100% sold on the relion .. that is all we ever used and always thought it did a good job .. of course, we had nothing else to compare to  I hope your vet get's on board soon if that is the meter you want to stick with ... have a great day guys!

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 177; +1 165 Relion

Hi Ann & Maggie,
I've always found the ReliOn to be very good. Occasionally my blood sample would be too small, but since it only requires a 0.3ml sample, that happened only rarely. Yesterday I did a comparison of my ReliOn Micro with my new FreeStyle Lite (which I bought because there are so many here who really like it; it takes the same small sample as the ReliOn, 0.3mil). I got identical readings from the same blood drop. So I'm feeling good about both meters. They each have their advantages: the ReliOn has less expensive strips (although if you order the FreeStyle strips from American Diabetes Wholesale they are pretty inexpensive, too); the FreeStyle Lite allows you to add blood to the strip within a minute's time if you don't have enough on the first try (unlikely, since it takes such a small blood sample).
Anyway, hang in there and don't give in to your vet. I agree that he can make the adjustment!!

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 177; +1 165 Relion

Morning Ann - I agree with what the other have said about the meters. I think too that in time your vet will come around. Once he sees how all is well he'll be OK.

I love the sleeping sounds - so cute! Mannie does that once in a while, but not as often as I would like.

Good luck with your appt - I hope that goes well.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 177; +1 165 Relion

I also have gotten weird readings when my meter didn't get enough blood; it gets almost enough....so it doesn't give me an error; but the reading might be off. I've gotten where I can tell and then I retest. However, it looks like that might not be the case here with her numbers so similar between AMPS and +1. Maybe just a blip???? Hope so.

I hope your appt goes well and things settle down for Maggie, Ann. Also hope you feel better today.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 177; +1 165 Relion

Hi Blue, I was wondering which meter are you using now that requires less blood than the Relion? Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Karrie - OTD - I needed more coffee! I don't think my Vet has ever run across someone using the human meter I'm thinking.

Hi Devon, thanks for stopping by, and how is our little MochaJo doing since the no pokeys? I bet she's lounging around and missing it, not!

Hi Ella, that's interesting the Freestylite and Relion show the exact readings. Good to know just in case. I think he's just not familiar with the Relion.

Hi Michelle, thanks and it seems all of your Vets have come around to the human meters. Yes, she's so cute with the sounds when she's sleeping.

Hi Marje, the high number must have been the FF Turkey & Giblets as Mags is so carb sensitive. The 2nd number was close enough to the first, too or lower.
