Good Morning LL Gobbles vet report is in yesterday's post if anyone stops by here today and wants to read it (or didn't). He woke me up purring & kissing. I noticed that the fur on his belly, back of legs and partially on tail was matted--looked to me like he layed down in his LB in pee/watery poo. The deercam proved that he wasn't laying in the LB an he didn't have diarrhea. I am thinking that it is due to the 1/2 cyproheptadin I gave him yesterday evening. He was drinking a lot of water and eating a ton. He hasn't had cyproheptadine since before he was started on Tylan; perhaps either it is too much or doesn't mix well with tylan. I also started him on ear drops last night--Mometamax 15mg, but I doubt ear drops could cause that, however, there are steroids in the ear drops. In addition, I increased his insulin by .25, however, I doubt that would cause this to happen. I think maybe his bladder was so full last night on top of all the eating and a possible sedative effect of cyproheptadine, that he peed/pooed. I found an area on the carpet where he must of been laying and a area on the way to the LB. Today I have to deliver his BM sample to the vet's office, so I am going to leave a note for the vet. EDIT: he just had a horrible diarrhea....8:50 a.m. and he's very hungry: I only gave him 1/3 can of FF...

Anyone have thoughts, opinions on above???

RAFFLE UPDATE - As of 4/4/13:

party_cat  party_cat  party_cat  $1,120 RAISED!!! party_cat  party_cat  party_cat

There's only 4 days left to buy tickets! For the entire week, I'm running a RAFFLE TICKET SPECIAL:

For every ticket you buy = double raffle tickets!!! So...ticket prices/# of tickets are: 2/$2 ~ 6/$5 ~ 14/$10 ~ 30/$30 ~ 50/$20
FDMB needs a lot of money to keep the boards running and to help others (with limited funds) who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford diabetic supplies and/or pay for vet care. Try to imagine what our lives would be like without FDMB...Scary thought, huh? Every dollar raised helps immensely and there are great prizes that you can win!!! Re: 4/4 Gobbles AMPS 231 ? BM/pee accident :(

I'm sorry that I don't have any answers for you. I hope that Gobbles feels better very soon, and am wishing for him to make a full and speedy recovery. I hope that the vet can figure out what's going on, and get him better. Try and have a good day.

Healing vines for Gobbles. I hope they figure out what is going on with him. ((((Kat)))) No advice from me but lots of hugs. Hang in there!

Re: 4/4 Gobbles AMPS 231 ? BM/pee accident :(

Just grabbing at theories...I wonder if his ear infection is causing him to be dizzy and nauseous and therefore causing his LB and appy issues. I know it's a stretch, but you never know. It's also possible that the cypro could be a contributing factor, too. Sending more vines and prayers your way!!

Hi Kat. Sorry that Gobbles is stilled plagued by the diarrhea. I hope the vet can diagnosed the problem and and get him on the proper meds to correct it.

Have a great day Kat.

I stand corrected: There are 2 components of the Mometamax that could cause side effects (even as a topical drug applied in the ears) Keep in mind that this medicine is also prescribed for cats (bold conditions are some of Gobbles new symptoms since he started using it):

Mometasone
ALP (SAP) and ALT (SGPT) enzyme elevations, weight loss, anorexia, polydipsia (excessive thirst), polyuria (excessive urine), neutrophilia, and lymphopenia have occurred following the use of parenteral, high-dose, and/or prolonged or systemic synthetic corticosteroids in dogs. Cushing’s syndrome in dogs has been reported in association with prolonged or repeated steroid therapy.

&

Mometamax Otic Suspension
In field studies following once-daily treatment with MOMETAMAX Otic Suspension, ataxia, proprioceptive deficits, and increased water consumption were observed in less than 1% of 164 dogs. In a field study following twice-daily treatment with MOMETAMAX Otic Suspension, inflammation of the pinna and diarrhea were observed.

See my post right above this one--I guess the ear drops can be the culprit!! And I do believe giving him cypro didn't help matters

Thanks so much Angela, Frosty John, Melissa, Amy, Jeanne & Mocha Jo's Mommy! Your concern and support means so much to me :-D

Re: 4/4 Gobbles AMPS 231 +4 238 ? BM/pee accident :(

I would talk to your vet. Your vet should have resources that we can't access -- for example, the Veterinary Information Network (VIN) is an online service that veterinary professionals, including pharmacologists, are a part of.

I would also post on Health. There are several vet techs on FDMB who participate on the Health board.

Re: 4/4 Gobbles AMPS 231 +4 238 +7 246 ? BM/pee accident :(

Thanks everyone (adding to above thanks: Sienne, Cindy & Rachel); he seems better now; ate but didn't gorge, drank a little water, hasn't used LB as of 2:45 p.m., BG in 200s, came to greet me when I walked through the door...I stopped at his vet to drop off the fecal sample (and was shocked :o :o :o at what I had to pay....$160, my goodness) and although the vet was in surgery, he is supposed to call me this evening....

I hope Gobbles is feeling better this evening. Hopefully the vet can give you some good advice with regards to whether the ear meds are causing the problems.

Thanks Carla. He has been eating small meals throughout the day and is being sociable. He hasn't had a BM since 9 a.m. this morning (anti-jinx) and pee'd a few times (and no ketones). He's taking a catnap on the couch right now and was preening earlier. So it seems he is feeling okay. I went ahead and finally gave him his Tylan (albeit late) but am withholding the ear drops and cypro until I talk to his doctor. The blood & urine labs should probably be back by tomorrow, but I don't think the fecal test will be back probably until Monday....

:YMHUG: So sorry Gobbles isn't feeling well!

Not sure what might be causing any of this but one thing I've noticed with Michelangelo is that when he runs in higher numbers for as little as a day or two, his fur isn't as soft and silky as it normally is and is sometimes "wet," almost like a toddler's sweaty body after getting up from a nap. Maybe this could be partially contributing to it?

Feel better soon, Gobbles! cat_pet_icon

I wonder if you deal with one thing at a time.. I mean wasn't it dr house who said he didn't believe in coincidences? Maybe it's the ear infection, or the meds for it , or both that are causing these issues. I wouldn't do the ultrasound or more tests until his ear infection is cleared up and he is off those meds. You have too much going on to otherwise know the cause.

Did you try pumpkin?

I have to get more pumpkin. I got a can last week, he wouldn't eat much. The can sat in the fridge so I threw it out. He's on canned food for now. I did give him the Tylan. I am holding off on the ear ointment (mometamax) & cypro for now. I had planned on trying maybe raw chicken or raw turkey tomorrow....maybe....thanks!!!

It just sounds like Gobby is super-duper sensitive to changes. Is there a way you can kind of go back to square one, put on those darned patience pants, and see how things go? He's been on so many different meds lately...maybe a good clearing of his system, then starting over, will help you figure out what all is happening. Poor little guy, and you, too!

I gave him some Friskies LC this morning along with his Pearl. I have chicken thawing out. I am going to try giving him nothing by raw chicken today (brat won't eat the Nature's Variety raw chicken bits I bought him for his birthday). I would like to keep him on the Tylan (still waiting on a call back from the vet~I think he'll call today with some of the lab results) and will give him his dose of it an hour after he ate. Paws crossed. Thanks for your concern Amy :-D
