Hi,

I don't use this board much because I dont really know/am not very comfortable posting here. We have been working with an internist to try to get George's glucose under control. He started monday on 5 units BID, and today his morning reading was 148. He was his usual starving self. I kind of panicked, since he's never been this low...ever, so I stayed home from school and I've been testing him every 2 hours. His last reading (+4) was 98. I have seen no symptoms of hypoglycemia, but I gave him some more food and a little honey anyways. I will keep testing him throughout the day. Advice welcome.

That's a pretty good drop! I see you're using an Alpha Trak meter, but even so, I don't think you need to worry about hypo until they get below 80 on those meters. I don't know your cat, but sometimes you can try a little bit of LC food instead of HC food in the hopes that George will surf in that lower range. You will have to learn how George reacts in these situations. The HC food/honey can wear off quickly, so be sure to keep testing. Keep posting numbers so we can help if needed. You're doing great!

Hi guys .. Nice numbers for george! I'm sorry to hear you don't feel comfortable posting here .. this board is such a wealth of knowledge, and there are NEVER any stupid questions .. I don't know much about your history but I did check out George's SS .. I don't usually give out dosing advice and I know you are working with an internist .. but I do know that doses "here" on this board are generally recommended at .25 intervals, so you don't miss that perfect dose .. I see you guys are mainly going up full unit's at a time .. Again, I'm not giving dosing advice of telling you what you are doing is wrong .. But just something to think about .. have a great day guys!

Ok, his +6 was 168, so he's going to be fine. Thank you for whoever was keeping track of him today. Sorry I panicked!

Those are some nice numbers for George today! I see you are using the Alpha Trak 2 meter, which reads about 30 points higher than a human meter. We started out with the Alpha Trak too, at our vets recommendation but later switched to a human meter because the AT strips cost a whole lot more. I would encourage you to post here when you have questions. As Devon said, there is a wealth of information here and everyone is very generous with their time and expertise.

I guess I shouldn't have panicked so badly, since everyone is saying they're nice numbers. He's just never been so low, and it's a high dose of insulin. I got in touch with the internist, she said 5 units in the morning, 4 units in the evening, curve him in one week. I use the alpha trak I guess because I feel like I spent so much money on it, I feel like I should get use out of it. I can buy the Freestyle lite strips for about $20 for 50. I know it's higher, and we'll probably eventually switch.

Thank you for all the advice!

Very nice for George indeed! This really is an awesome group...I hope you decide to stick around - there is SO much knowledge and emotional support!
