Greetings to all.

Curry continues to be a very spicey girl. Numbers are decent even though we are going up the insulin ladder. I'm wondering if being isolated due to behavior issues has decreased her activity level and impacted her glucose. Everytime we get a chance to play during the afternoon (when I'm typically at work) it seems to help. Maybe I'll just stop working.

The girls are now 3.5 feet apart while eating which is great. Both are relaxed.

I think I may have over done it w/the exposures in the living room though. Curry is getting increasingly agitated when she sees Sid and then Sid will bolt. That's not good as Curry can sense Sid's fear. So back to just having Curry in the crate in the living room for short times w/out Sid. Then reintroducing the two while far apart. Two steps forward and one step back. I think I'm just getting tired of this process. Three months of doing this is a freakin' long time. :YMSIGH:

Here's a video of the two girls while eating....only 3.5 feet apart. We started at 21 feet. Have to celebrate the small successes. :RAHCAT

is Sid the one closest to the video camera? pretty face!!! i couldn't see the back kitter too well (Curry?) - they seemed ok eating that close to each other.

what's the story on their animosity? what happens if they are loose in the same room? i've always just left a door closed between cats for 2 days til they got done hissing and then opened it. usually there's some hissing while they walk around each other for a bit, but then they've settled down. in fact when i brought punkin home he was a lot better with felix (after he got done hissing) than with the humans! he hid behind the fridge and the washing machine for 6 months. seriously. he ended up snuggling with felix long before he accepted the people in the house.

Curry is closest to the camera.

3 months ago both kitties saw a stray black cat next to the window...it was evidently way to close for either.....Both got scared and Curry went after Sid...repeatedly.....Curry's numbers decided to drop dramatically at the time....so I think the experience was imprinted.....in the past they would both get over any altercation very quickly....this continued....6 months prior I had moved and this had caused Sid (the previous Alpha) to become fearful, especially when I had to have maintence folks here almost weekly for the first month.....I also think Curry was picking up on Sid's fear....Curry and Sid would tolerate one another in the past...never would lay down next to one another....Curry would groom Sid a little but would never allow Sid to groom her.....Now if they get too close and are not engaged in an activity Sid will hiss causing Curry to start howling.....When Curry does this.....it can escalate very quickly......I had a Vet Behavorist come to the house to help w/a reintegration plan about 2.5 months ago....I think she would have put Curry on an antidepressant to help w/the agitation but sd since Curry is dealing w/the other medical issues she was less inclined to do so. She sd they may or may not be able to tolerate one another again. Sigh.

What an awesome video!!!! What would have happened if you hadn't done the exposure therapy that you are doing now?

You have beautiful kitties. Keep on hanging on - it will work out. Hugs.

They are both so cute. Congratulations on your progress, even if there are some small setbacks along the way. When people see my aggressive cat when he is alone in his room, and so affectionate with humans, they can't imagine that he is aggressive. It is such a strange thing, this feline aggression, and so hard to deal with. I gave up on it, and just went with separation. My hat is off to you for sticking with it.

wow, well good for you for all of your efforts! hopefully they'll get tired of it eventually and you'll have peace in your pet-household!

Numbers looking good--Cute video, cats are beautiful..Hope they will get along better!
Moonie gave Copper shot in the head tonite & he hit her back(he usually does nothing)--Who can figure??
Have a good Caturday night!

hi Tena - loved the video - and congrats on the progress. I know on the two steps forward and one step back. It is tough, and I applaud you for all yur efforts. It's a long battle, but I think you will get there. Hang in there!

They are both beautiful kitties btw.

Have a great night!

Thanks for all the support y'all.

This evening I elected to keep the girls apart. No eating dinner together, no exposures since Curry was getting a little agitated today. Both seem a little more relaxed tonight after keeping them apart. I think I was moving too fast w/this.

I finally figured out how to get Curry wound-up to play and exercise. That part is really important for her asthma, diabetes and who knows what else w/her......Mental health....and had been reduced since she was isolated in the bedroom.

So she will do cartwheels for a treat. I throw the treat and she will run to get it....then I put a treat in her cat tree so she has to do a little jumping...not too much. After a few runs and a few jumps to get her treats, she gets revved up for play.
