WCR: Not bad :) Plenty of fresh air and outside time has helped lift her spirits. We've had lots of strolling and just lazing outside on the porch. She's been sleeping with me, which I think is a good sign. And she mauled a new lemon that I got her last weekend - play is good!

BGs have gotten significantly better. I'm not going to try to figure out why, b/c I'll just worry about it. Changes instituted since 3/5 that may have helped include switching to flank shots, increasing her squids amount, adding denosyl to her supplement regimen, and raising her calcitriol dose. Appy hasn't been around much; unfortunately, that probably helped keep her BGs low. We've been trying, but her new normal is now 2.5 to 2.75 oz of canned food per day. We had to syringe-feed 4 breakfasts and one dinner this week, think it's the first time we're syringe-feeding since last Sept. She tolerates it well enough and doesn't even run off now when we're done; instead, she just lies a few feet away and washes her face ane paws. We picked up a vial of B-12 from the hospital yesterday and she got her first shot of B-12 last night; it *seems* to be helping.

Forgot to get a weight this morning, will try to get one tomorrow.

B/w (recheck) came back this week. Renal values are fairly consistent, haven't deteriorated in the last three weeks. PTH has dropped back to normal range after five doses of calcitriol at a higher dose. Crit is still climbing; I told Dr F-B today about how puzzled I was about that, and she said she'd been working on some blood points during acupuncture treatments - maybe that's it. It's a good thing then. I'd been poring over stuff online trying to figure out how crit could be climbing when she didn't seem dehydrated, and at this stage of CKD she's in, and couldn't find any good answers.

Am trying to schedule her u/s appt for later this month; the 20th, to be exact. Waiting for radiologist to call me back on Thurs because I have questions. If they're all answered and I feel comfortable, we'll go for it. (We'll be in Nina and KB's neighbourhood). I'm putting off the feeding tube for now, since syringe-feeding seems to be going well.

And now, on to the big news of this weekend. Tomorrow is a big day for our little princess. Two years ago, on April 4, 2008, surrounded by the prayers and good wishes of the good ppl of FDMB, Meowzi had her first mastectomy. Her surgeon removed her left mammary chain and surrounding lymph nodes; pathology confirmed mammary carcinoma, and prognosis was guarded. But the fabulous Dr S did such a great job, and got clean margins, that she's been free of mammary cancer since then. (The right chain and lymph nodes were removed six weeks later as a precautionary measure; pathology found early changes there but no cancerous cells yet). She has had various health challenges since then, but has forged on, stoic as ever. We are so very proud of her, and so grateful for this gift of extra time with her. Every minute, every day, with her, is a precious, precious gift. And I continue to thank her guardian angel, the tick, for all of it.

BTW the bean owes several PM responses, am slowly working my way through them. After this weekend, of course, unless it's pressing ;-)

Choy Foong, I am so in awe of all you are doing for your sweet girl. You are amazing. I'm glad she seems to be doing OK, despite her overlapping issues of various sorts. She is really an amazing little trooper!! just keeps on truckin' though it all ! :-D

What you say about being so grateful to have her with you each and every day that you can, was so poignant. I know she knows how much you love her and appreciate her specialness...what a beautiful little sweetie she is.

Happy anniversary. Two years ago must have been an incredibly difficult and stressful time but it has been two wonderful years for you, DH and Meowzi. Your kitty has a very dedicated bean.

Did she have a little Big Bird kids' suitcase??

Congratulations on your milestone, Choy Foong. So happy that Meowzi is doing so well.

p.s. Lemon? I thought cats hated citrus!! :-D

Hugs-hugs-hugs! And Happy Anniversary! It's good one! dancing_cat

Mutilated lemons are a great way to monitor WCRs.

Sure am glad I got my trusty medical glossary here to get me through this condo!

I swear I've learned more here than I ever did from my vets! Ithankyou.

wow! I did not know Meowzi had cancer at one point. What a darlin' trooper! You have been through so much with her and take such good care of her needs.

Im sorry you are having to syringe feed, but glad that is going well enough for you. You have all the tools to make it work for quite a long time. And she is quite the patient girl, very connected to knowing you are doing what you need to do so she can continue to enjoy her cat life.

Thanks for the update.

Happy two year annifursary, Meowzi. I have tears reading your post, Choy-Foong. I hope you have many, many more days with your Princess. And thank you for all your help with my many questions.

Congratulations on your two year milestone Choy-Foong and Meowzi!

Meowzi's strong life force obviously found her compatible companion in you.

Wishing you many more days ahead and a return to Mewozi's appetite.

So glad to see a Meowzi update. The last few days have been beautiful for strolls, haven't they? I even got outside for a bit yesterday.

Been wondering if you'd be coming to the clinic down this way, wasn't sure you'd made a final selection.

And congratulations to your princess for reaching this milestone. Hugs to you and DH for all you do for her.

wow. 2 years since her surgery! her journey is inspiring... and so are you, choy-foong. happy anniversary!
once again, i'd like to thank you. you've helped so many (including myself) in so many ways.
please give meowzi a hug and smoosh from me!

Your post brought tears to my eyes, Choy-Foong. You both have fought a brave fight. Kiss Meowzi for me and tell her she must eat! Great that the syringe is working so well. That's way better than any invasive procedure. Donna
