Plenty of fresh air and outside time has helped lift her spirits. We've had lots of strolling and just lazing outside on the porch. She's been sleeping with me, which I think is a good sign. And she mauled a new lemon that I got her last weekend - play is good!
BGs have gotten significantly better. I'm not going to try to figure out why, b/c I'll just worry about it. Changes instituted since 3/5 that may have helped include switching to flank shots, increasing her squids amount, adding denosyl to her supplement regimen, and raising her calcitriol dose. Appy hasn't been around much; unfortunately, that probably helped keep her BGs low. We've been trying, but her new normal is now 2.5 to 2.75 oz of canned food per day. We had to syringe-feed 4 breakfasts and one dinner this week, think it's the first time we're syringe-feeding since last Sept. She tolerates it well enough and doesn't even run off now when we're done; instead, she just lies a few feet away and washes her face ane paws. We picked up a vial of B-12 from the hospital yesterday and she got her first shot of B-12 last night; it *seems* to be helping.
Forgot to get a weight this morning, will try to get one tomorrow.
B/w (recheck) came back this week. Renal values are fairly consistent, haven't deteriorated in the last three weeks. PTH has dropped back to normal range after five doses of calcitriol at a higher dose. Crit is still climbing; I told Dr F-B today about how puzzled I was about that, and she said she'd been working on some blood points during acupuncture treatments - maybe that's it. It's a good thing then. I'd been poring over stuff online trying to figure out how crit could be climbing when she didn't seem dehydrated, and at this stage of CKD she's in, and couldn't find any good answers.
Am trying to schedule her u/s appt for later this month; the 20th, to be exact. Waiting for radiologist to call me back on Thurs because I have questions. If they're all answered and I feel comfortable, we'll go for it. (We'll be in Nina and KB's neighbourhood). I'm putting off the feeding tube for now, since syringe-feeding seems to be going well.
And now, on to the big news of this weekend. Tomorrow is a big day for our little princess. Two years ago, on April 4, 2008, surrounded by the prayers and good wishes of the good ppl of FDMB, Meowzi had her first mastectomy. Her surgeon removed her left mammary chain and surrounding lymph nodes; pathology confirmed mammary carcinoma, and prognosis was guarded. But the fabulous Dr S did such a great job, and got clean margins, that she's been free of mammary cancer since then. (The right chain and lymph nodes were removed six weeks later as a precautionary measure; pathology found early changes there but no cancerous cells yet). She has had various health challenges since then, but has forged on, stoic as ever. We are so very proud of her, and so grateful for this gift of extra time with her. Every minute, every day, with her, is a precious, precious gift. And I continue to thank her guardian angel, the tick, for all of it.
BTW the bean owes several PM responses, am slowly working my way through them. After this weekend, of course, unless it's pressing ;-)
