WooHoo! Good luck! Hoping everything is uneventful.

You do have plenty of high carb food, right? Most people with Big Gulpers (high dose kitties) keep several cans of high carb gravy food on stock along with karo syrup (honey or maple syrup works fine too.) I never needed to use more than a low-dose cat with punkin - his blood sugar would rise with a teaspoon of gravy, but I've heard stories of people needing more than that for the high dose cats. One tip - you can increase the carbs of any cat food by adding the sugar syrup to it.

Yep! We have gravy type hc food and karo or maple syrup. Extra strips and lancets. Testing soon for the +1. Do I just post it here or do I add it to the thread title? Or both?

With Lantus, we say that typically if the +2 is higher than the preshot, it'll be a quiet night. Hard to say if that's the case with the first dose though. The other part of the saying is that if the +2 is quite a bit lower, it'll be an active cycle requiring more monitoring. But of course there's an ECID element. Neko onset on Lantus late, so she could still dive late in the cycle after a higher +2. For her the +3 was the more telling.

Good luck with cycle one on Lantus.

FYI - we typically link in our last post in case people want to go back and read what happened before. Here's yesterday's post.

Good luck Steph and Chuck! I didn't realize that your AM shot is in the wee hours of the morning........Good thing we have a West Coast Team!

That's how it usually went with ProZinc too. Once I knew his +2 or +3 I knew if he was going to need an extra snack or if he would be fine.

Getting closer to PMPS. 260's right now. He's a quick jumper and usually goes up fast at the end of the cycle with prozinc. I'm a bit nervous shooting on a mid yellow like that. I know it has to be done. Just full of nerves already!

You can delete the AM numbers if you need to to show the PM cycle. How are your nerves since the shot? Wait til you shoot your first green......:nailbiting:

I'll do that when I get home. I'm still pretty nervous. Can't imagine shooting a green yet!!

Still nicer numbers than on the previous cycle on ProZinc. He was in yellows longer and no blacks. I like this .....a little gentle and the depot has to build. Not a bad day so far. ;)

I'm excited to see what happens when the depot fills up but nervous at the same time. Happy that so far the first day has been a gentle introduction to lantus.
Question: is it ok to go 3 hours between tests if he's high like this, after +5?
Not something I want to do daily but sometimes I get a little busy with dinner and stuff around +5 or +6. Tonight I figured it was no big deal because he was higher. I know I have no data to predict when it could be ok to do... Just wasn't sure if full curves were strictly required.

Actually, it's OK to go until AMPS now. At this point it's highly unlikely he'll go anywhere near the danger zone. Nighty night! The guidelines for starting Lantus are testing every 3 hours for the first couple of days. You've more than outdone yourself. :)
