Good morning everyone,

Angie has been doing well on her 0.1 dose and just in time too for my sleep deprivation - I've fallen asleep a few times when I meant to stay up. I've split her food into two to make the two cats easier to feed together (they both finish each meal and I know who eats what). I was planning to feed them second breakfast at +1, but I fell asleep!

I have a couple of questions about this. I've been feeding her all her am food at AMPS and her nadir has been between +2 and +5. If I split her breakfast into two and feed her at second breakfast at +1, will her nadir move back an hour? That will mean staying up later at night to test!

Today so far:
AMPS - 130, breakfast 1
+3 ---- 86, breakfast 2

Yesterday:
AMPS - 160, all breakfast, 0.1 insulin (fur shot?)
+2 ---- 140
+4 ---- 92
PMPS - 101
+2 ---- 139
+3.5 -- 90
+4.5 -- 104

Thanks for all the advice and support in my condo yesterday - I feel so much better today. I've had a lot more sleep and am beginning to catch up on my sleep debt. Your encouragement really helped.

Re: 4/3/13 Angie AMPS=130 +3=86 - does more meals move nadir

I know you must hate when I say this but there's no way to give you a definite answer to your question. Most cats have a tendency with regard to where their nadir falls. If Angie typically has an early nadir, regardless of when you feed, her nadir will be early. Gabby is one of those cats with an early nadir. I feed at pre-shot, +1, +2 and +3. I spread her food out that way because she's prone to early, fast dives. By front loading the cycle, it helps to buffer her numbers.

The biggest truism here is that every cat is different (ECID). What holds for my cat may not be true for Angie. And, to complicate things even more, is that it is our cats' job to keep us on our toes. Nadir times are not fixed. It can change from week to week, day to day, or even cycle to cycle. The best way to assess if Angie's nadir changes is to keep collecting data.

Hi Sienne,

I don't hate that answer at all. It was exactly what I wanted to hear! I didn't want to move Angie's nadir back to far because then I'd be (or aiming to be) up all night testing.

Mostly I am looking for a way of feeding the two cats without separation and knowing how much each one eats. All of Angie's low numbers that I've got (so far) have been from an early, fast dive so it sounds like a good thing to do for her pancreas too. I understand that I don't have a lot of data yet, shouldn't be looking for trends already (but I can't help it!), and that the game changes all the time. I do plan on continuing to test frequently.

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

Angie has had another good day today. She doesn't seem ready for a dose decrease yet - she seems to like the 0.1 unit dose. I've had such a busy day (my cousins have been staying and I saw them off as well as picked up another friend from the airport who is visiting and raced out to dinner with her) and managed to forget her pm insulin. Ang has recovered quite well from her missing shot with a PM+3.5 of 94. Would she have much of an insulin shed on a 0.1 dose?

Recap from today.
AMBG - 130, breakfast 1, 0.1 unit insulin
+3 ---- 86, breakfast 2
+5 ---- 97
+7.5 -101
+9.5 - 117
PMPS - 119, dinner, forgot insulin ohmygod_smile
+3.4 - 94

Not much, but there is a depot there. It will be interesting to see what her AMPS is.
