Nice green start today! Yesterday

I know many of you asked to see our Monarchs when they emerged. Today was the day for our first two butterflies! Here's a recap:

Chrysalis last night--starting to become transparent

Chrysalis this morning at 7am

Newly emerged

We will release them outdoors this afternoon!

Those pictures are really neat. You are blessed to have those in your yard  Nice AMPS, too, Simon cat_pet_icon

FYI, Monarch eggs can be found in fields (you just need to learn to identify the milkweeds that are native to your area!) This year we collected eggs in a field (it's a designated "native area" with wildflowers); we then collected milkweed to feed the cats who were housed in a plastic aquarium indoors. We are planting native, perennial milkweeds in our yard and hope to have some of our own eggs next year! Monarchs are migratory--from the northern US to Mexico and Pismo Beach, CA. Its a very interesting species.

If you are north of Texas, right now is probably your season! The spring season is wrapping up here. The first generation of eggs that was laid by the Mexico overwintering Monarchs has mostly hatched and moved north from Dallas. It takes 3 generations to get north and then one generation to go all the way back south to Mexico.

Just had a minor heart attack because I got a BG of 20. I retested twice and got 54 and 55. . .so I think the first test was just a fluke!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!
