4/26 Condo

Good morning all! Wow, what an incredible condo yesterday - again thank you to everyone! So much still to learn!

All Ps in place and much better to see him on the pink floor rather than the red floor. I hope the dose crease works and we see some action on this dose. I think we both finally slept well last night, He laid in my arms all night snoozing and very content. I think I slept about 7 hours last night totally undisturbed with him there to comfort me. He's such a loving little guy. Snuggles and kisses this morning galore! :-D Figured out this morning - as I've been feeling a little 'off' - thought it was stress - but found out I haven't taken my blood pressure pills all week!!!! Need to get back on those today..

Need to work him back down on his food to the lower carb. Been giving him 9% this week to get some good food into him and try to get that pound he lost back on, but it really does make his numbers a little higher. Normally I can count on a 30 point rise with food, seems like its about 40 now. The +3 last night had lots of food in it. He kept snacking! DH cooked some fish the other night so his snacks have been some fresh fish (cooked in butter) and he's been loving that. He kept going from one bowl to another for 3 hours. 9% - fish - 9% - fish.... I'll work on the food issue this weekend.

Wishing everyone a great Saturday - don't have to work this weekend so doing the household chores and giving DH a break. He wants to do the manly stuff in the garage today. Things are getting better on the home front. He seems to be mellowing.... thank god!

Hope everyone sees great numbers, safe surfs and healing vines to all that need them!!

Morning back to you Jo - glad to hear DH is mellowing I'm sure that makes life easier. We get about a 40 point rise in food over here. Pink is a better color for sure and hopefully that dosecrease will do the trick and he'll keep coming down gradually. He certainly does sound like he's having a good day....and that's what counts.

Re: 4/27 - Scratchie - AMPS-358

Morning Jo,

Nice to see him off the red floor, of course I won't be happy until he coming to play with Jez, & Autumn at the blue lagoon and then goes with them to have picnic on the green grass. Once he is down in normal numbers then I will breathe a sigh of relief that we aren't going to have to worry about him throwing ketones again. I fear we are going to have to still have to be upping his dose quite a bit before he gets there, but hopefully at least this dose will get him down into the yellows at the very least. But if he isn't getting at least a sprinkling of blues in there once his shed adjusts to the dose crease or if you get any ketone test higher than a trace, I would take him up to 4.5u next weekend.

Also you might want to talk to your vet about getting you a bag of sub-q fluids, tubing and needles to have on hand if he starts showing trace or small ketones to give at home to help him flush them quickly. I know when I adopted Autumn she had moderate ketones and I gave her sub-q fluids her at home and jumped her insulin up pretty quickly and she cleared them pretty quickly. So that might be something handy to have on hand just in case you need them. I always figures it is better to have and not need, than need and not have if ya know what I mean?

Yeah! Yesterday's condo was awesome!!! I always love it when we get a chance to discuss the wherefores and whys behind various dosing strategies so that everyone can learn!! Especially when there are differing opinions of how to proceed with a kitty that clearly hasn't read the stickies on how to be a good Sugarcat. :-D Not only does it help the caregiver who is treating the cat, it helps everyone reading the condo to learn a new trick or two that can be stored for future reference should they find either themselves in the same situtation or if they are eventually advising someone else when it is their turn to Pay It Forward!!

Also nice to hear that your DH is starting to mellow out some and will keep improving his attitude as we get Scratchie more and more regulated and he sees the old Scratchie emerging. :-D I know my DH gets frustrated when either I or one of our fur babies is sick and he can't just fix it immediately. He doesn't help test or shoot either, but then again he is the one that goes out and works ungodly hours in the elements to give me the ability to stay at home all day with the babies. So I really don't mind doing all the animal and housework. But there are still times I want to strangle him as well, just for different reasons... Normally with Jon it is because he is texting me while I'm trying to feed and test with "How's Autumn's Numbers today?" "Is she okay there or is that too low to early?" etc And OMG I don't dare tell him while he is at work that she is doing one of her famous dives down into the 20s... Then I'm getting a text every 15mins with ..."Did you go poke a kitty? Where is she at now?" ohmygod_smile

Re: 4/27 - Scratchie - AMPS-358, +3-350

Ketones negative again this morning. Going to pick up R today to start tomorrow. All advice is welcomed!

Thanks!

Re: 4/27 - Scratchie - AMPS-358, +3-350

Although I was very concerned about your post yesterday, I declined to put in my 2 cents, cause I had nothing to offer. :o

I so hope you can get your boy squared away, stable and in good numbers.

Take your meds! I can so relate, I've been off a couple of mine, because I can't wake up at night when I take them. Dealing with both mine and Lucian's medical issues is a real PITA, but I try to meet halfway, at least. Like Mel tells me, you got to take care of you, so you can take care of him.

Re: 4/27 - Scratchie - AMPS-358, +3-350

Hello Jo,
I hadn't realized you were posting over here so I'm just catching up on all the events for Scratchie. ( still have more reading to do )

I hope with all that's happening Scratchie will soon be in a much better way. cat_pet_icon
Big Hugs!

You know you always have my support....

Jo

I saw your post so contacted Jill and Libby about you starting the R. Jill responded to me but she is having Internet issues and so I am posting her suggestion.

Jill thinks if you are able to get the R today and if Scratchie is still high and not dropping at +7/+8, you could give him 0.1u at either +7/+8 and test every hour starting with R+1. I would recommend you also get an R+5 so you can see whether he heads back up or continues down.

What do you think?

eta: if you decide to shoot the R, I will be around to check in on you every hour if you would feel more comfortable.

Marje. Sorry haven't picked it up yet heading out in a bit as thought I would start tomorrow morning. We have plans tomorrow around 2 (his +8). Tonight is date night apparently as we have worked things out.

Sorry. I checked a little bit ago and didn't see post or PM

Can I do tomorrow morning? His shot is at 5am

From Jill's input, it's probably best to try it the first time when we know it is past his nadir and not going to interfere with lantus onset. It just gives you an idea of how he will respond when it's the safest time.

That's what I did with Gracie as well and it made it easier for me to take that first step of using it.

We don't know if the numbers will be such in the morning that you can use it. It's kind of like shopping at Tuesday Morning....if you are looking at a specific item, you buy when the opportunity exists because you don't know the next time it will :-D

Up to you...I understand the importance of date night.

eta: quick message from Jill that if he is still high and not dropping at +10, you could also give it then. She didn't know about your date night but thought I'd pass it along anyway.

So do I wait a week to try? I can't cancel tonight after all that's gone on and can't cancel tomorrow either dang it. Crap! LOL. It's just been a tough week on the home front and now that things are calm - if I throw another wrench it will start all over again I'm afraid. What to do?

I understand. I really do.

I will see if I can contact Jill again...she's having connection issues...or Libby later tonight. I can try and get their thoughts on giving it in the morning if he's high and not dropping but there's just that issue of both insulins potentially onsetting at the same time.....it would be one thing if you'd given R several times and knew what to expect although the results vary based on when you give it. But at least you'd have a little experience with it.

Every time I've used it, it has been a real last minute decision because you have to see where the numbers are, what they are doing, where it is in the cycle, what the potential outcome could be, etc.

Ok I understand. Thanks for taking the time! I'll check in later.

Jo

We were discussing this and the possibility of you shooting R in the morning if he's high.

I think we all have similar concerns for you shooting R in the morning. Libby brought up that Scratchie will be on his fourth cycle of the 4u dose and we don't know when he might kick in from that dose...if he does.

We don't know what he's doing tonight and Jill believes you would have to get a +10 so we could see where he was headed at AMPS. If he was high and not dropping, that would be one thing. Without the +10, we wouldn't know if his AMPS was a rising, dropping, surf, or second dip number.

I am concerned that you could be overlapping a lantus and R onset....which goes back to Libby's comment.

Jill and Libby both said you would need to test every hour for the first five hours. Sometimes R really yanks the numbers down and so you would have to be prepared to stay home.

Something Libby mentioned and I've also noticed with Gracie is that you might see lower numbers the next cycle or so, too, because once the R knocks through, the lantus can then do it's job.

It really might be better to wait. If you are home by +8 tomorrow, and he is high and not dropping, you could shoot R at +8, +9, or +10.
