Yesterday's Condo

Thanks for the encouraging words yesterday. Abby and I both spent yesterday late afternoon/evening taking little cat naps and both feel much better! It was such a relief to know that her insulin was working, but yet not SO well that I had to fear that she would bottom out and keep me up poking her for hours on end. I think that contributed to my first good night's sleep since Friday!

In reading all your condo's and scanning the AMPS's it's so nice to see so many good stories, good happy condos, and nice numbers! It really helps motivate those of us just getting started (again) or otherwise struggling at the moment.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi guys .. I don't think I have posted in your condo yet ? So welcome (back)! This sunny yellow isn't a bad place to start the day, though I hope some blues are right around the corner for you guys .. have a great day!

Thanks Dyana...I think she's quite the cutie too!

Rough night weather-wise ahead...I'll probably be up for that anyway so I might as well get some good data while we're at it. Even though she gets back into the yellows at end-cycle I'd like to see how long she's blue. My fear is that some of these shots are actually into fat instead of where they should be. It doesn't smell so it wasn't a furshot. I'm going to cut some of her hair to help with that as well as see if she won't let me "pinch-an-inch" somewhere with looser skin.

Re: 4/27 Abby PMPS 253

my understanding is that you are supposed to inject into fat - muscle and too near the skin are both painful. i could be wrong - i'll look around and see if i can find the reference page for you.

hmmm, this isn't what i found before, and this is about people, but maybe it's helpful, or maybe someone else has some ideas to offer.

Injecting insulin in the right place

Insulin should be injected into the subcutaneous fat for most efficient absorption and utilization.

Injected too deeply, the insulin could be injected into the muscle, accelerating absorption and increasing the risk of hypoglycemia. If the injection is not deep enough, the insulin may leak out and reduce the effectiveness of the insulin.

The patient’s body mass index (BMI), along with the part of the body being injected and the needle length, determines the angle of injection. A 90°angle is appropriate for areas of the body with more fat -- and less than a 45° angle in areas of the body with less fat, thus avoiding the injection of insulin into muscle. Patients should pinch up a fold of skin to insert the needle at the appropriate angle to the skin fold – to avoid injecting insulin into the muscle. For patients using a 5mm mini-pen needle, no pinch up is necessary because the shorter needle cannot inject into the muscle.

Likely headed for the storm closet here in another hour or so. The storm with the tornado that hit Tuscaloosa and Birmingham is bearing down on my county. This will hopefully slow Abby dropping too fast too soon. Well...speak of the....tornado sirens. See ya.
