Good Morning LL,
Had a good talk with the vet yesterday about how the bupe worked, and about giving the prednisolone. First, she does not want me to give bupe on a regular basis, but only as really needed when obviously in pain (e.g., spasms). I told her I'm very apprehensive about using the pred, especially since TL's fPLI value was not THAT high (6.3) and she does not vomit or have diarrhea, and has a great appetite. She said she did not disagree with me. She said that even the IM specialist at TAMU said that using pred on a diabetic is a last ditch effort with high risk factors. She said it would be a different story if Tessie had cancer, but she doesn't.

So, I've opted to wait, mostly just on a gut feeling that it's the best thing to do for now. We're going to try her on Pepcid AC, bid, for a week, and see how she does. I'll alos give the bupe when really needed. We also agreed to talk again on Friday after I do today's curve, and decided whether it's time to increase the insulin or not.

So, that's what's happening in Tessie Lou's and my world. Now to go read about what's happening in yours! :-D

Re: 4/26 Tessie Lou AMPS 337 - New Plan

Hi guys .. I'm glad you and your vet are on the same page ... Im sure you will have all of Tessie Lou's meds down soon enough and know exactly what to give when so she isn't in pain .. Have a great day guys!

Re: 4/26 Tessie Lou AMPS 337 - New Plan

Morning! I too am glad that you and your vet are on the same page, agree, and can talk about things. That in itself is wonderful! Good decisions I think.

It sounds like she is feeling better - YAY on that, and good news!!

Have a great day guys. :-D

This info is from Jojo's pancreatitis/pepsid deficiency post:

possible tools your vet might have you use:
~SQ fluids
~ pain meds
~ anti-nausea meds (hey look pepcid falls in this category)
~ antioxidants (vitamin E ~water-dispersible form preferred and vitamin C ~non-acidic Ester-C form preferred)
~ liver support (milk thistle, denosyl, or marin)
~ vit b-12 injections(especially if bowel involved)
~ +/- pancreatic digestive enzymes (to 'predigest' food, however some controversy in vet med on whether or not to use these)
~ +/- antibiotics if indicated
~ +/- steroids if needed
~ +/- appetite stimulants if needed (and if liver not involved, some of these are contraindicated with liver issues)
can all be used to help the cat through the flare up. your vet can work up a treatment plan for managing your cat's CP flare up attacks.
I included it in case you want to discuss the use of antioxidants and the liver support aspects of Jojo's recommendations with your vet. (Jojo is a vet tech. She doesn't post here anywhere near as frequently as she once did.)

Re: 4/26 Tessie Lou AMPS 337 - New Plan

Thanks, Devon, Michelle, and Sienne,

Sienne, I will definitely discuss the antioxidants and liver support with my vet. Good idea! I also want to go back and try to find the fat content of various low carb food, to "fine tune" what I'm giving her. Vet said fat content should be kept low.

Question: Does anyone know where the food chart for Fancy Feast Classics can be found? It's not on either of Janet & Binky's charts (old or new).

I'm not sure exactly if this is what you are looking for but on their official website it has listed all the classic varieties and clicking on
Guaranteed Analysis gives a breakdown
This one is for the Classic Chicken Feast which i mostly feed Tommy.
Crude Protein (Min) 11.0%
Crude Fat (Min) 5.0%
Crude Fiber (Max) 1.5%
Moisture (Max) 78.0%
Ash (Max) 3.0%
Taurine (Min) 0.05%
I hope this helps a little ;-)
Squirrel and Tommy!

Re: 4/26 Tessie Lou AMPS 337 +2/302 +4/224 -Question

Thanks, Squirrel, that does help, but I was hoping somewhere there exists the actual number of grams of protein, fat, carbs, etc. The way Janet & Binky's food chart does it.

Re: 4/26 Tessie Lou AMPS 337 +2/302 +4/224 - Question

I kind of thought you were wanting something a bit more detailed. That was too simple to find that information for you.
I hope that some one has that answer. I would like to know too as Tommy eats FF classic meals.
Have a wonderful rest of your day :-D

Re: 4/26 Tessie Lou AMPS 337 +2/302 +4/224 - Question

Hi Sandy - All I have too is the %'s. If you know the grams in the can, can you use the % per item to determine the gram equivalent for that item? or am I not thinking this out correctly....

Re: 4/26 Tessie Lou AMPS 337 +2/302 +4/224 - Question

I *think* I saw some more recent % numbers for FF Classics somewhere...I'll have to look around. J & B's old list does have the classic varieties on it, but the names are a little different...and they have reformulated them since then (maybe more than once!)

I have to run out, I will look later and post what I find. I seem to remember something in the PZI forum...maybe search there?

Here's the link Fancy Feast Classics This info is a year + old, but more recent than J & B's old list. I suspect that it has been reformulated again since then, but it's the most current I am aware of. The PZI thread is here, the spreadsheet is courtesy of Donna & Buddha.
