I was away from my condo for the weekend but all is updated on SS now.

Very happy to have not gone ahead with the Cushings test today.I'm just not ready to go the Cushings route yet. Pedro is so close to being OTJ and that doesn't really mesh with the Cushings. He did developed another big cycst at the base of his tail on Friday night. His eating is ok - not as much as usual but I'm adding in a cypro every couple of days and feel he is eating enough.
I need to ask the vet about doing a culture - I wonder why he hasn't looked at that. Need to talk more with him as he did say he was perplexed by the tail issue and it just seems like a Cushings test is a big leap.

I'm going to do some more homework and I may look in to going to a specialist - endocrine or skin??? not sure yet.

I did stop in to a Petsmart on my way back home Sunday and bought some Sophisticat. He ate most of a can of the Turkey. But - being as cats are so darn fickle - will he eat it again????

Sure Amy....who will vow that he WILL? Duh. Did you buy the supreme or the regular?
It's like some sort of strange side show over here with the food....I get it all ready and then I place it before...
Your Majesties....I bow and then hold my breath.....will they eat it?
Oh, they are aproaching it slowly...
sniffing it...
I hold my breath still...
Shadow looks over at Raja....
She is busy looking at HIS dish (did HE get MORE than ME???)
He takes a bite!
SHE takes a bite!----

YEAH!!!
The court jester has done well with the meal selection!
They APPROVE!!!!
How many times do I have to go through this in a 24 hour period?

FWTW, I agree with you about the test. his numbers just don't gel with what I have read about Cushings...
did the vet say if it was Cushings Syndrome of Chushings disease? There is a difference, no?
HUGS Amy....say hello to Pedro from us, k?

Pedro's numbers are looking really good. I'd be cautious as well, one symptom does not a disease make. He didn't do a culture on the last cyst? I'd want to exhaust all other possibilities too. Seems like the tests are a lot to put Pedro through.

Amy, I went to a vet specialist with Moonie when my old vet had tried to get me to give Moonie 4U of humilin n..
They were so very equipped there to do any testing, treatments, etc..So, I'm hoping there is a facility for Pedro where they could help--at Least, for his tail..Vets are sometimes over taxed, multitasking creatures, who had too much happening ,to sometimes concentrate..
Hope you can find a place to help! Hugs~! from Us!

Glad you are researching before coming to any conclusions. I hope doing a culture on the cyst will give some more information to this puzzle. But it does seem that Pedro's numbers are just too good to be a Cushings kitty. (Not that I know diddly about Cushings.)

Hang in there Amy, best of luck with the feeding and food choices.

Re: 4/26 Pedro AMPS 106 PMPS 99

Pedro had another honking hair ball for me tonight when I got home. It's 'cause he keeps licking his tail. And this could also affect his eating because he gets these big balls in his gut. Guess I'll add some petrolium jelly to the list. Added a cypro for tonight .

Need to get my psyche up to discuss with my vet what to do next and see if he has suggestions for a referral to some kind of specialist.

But - the numbers are good!

Pedro, my Man!
You are lookin so gooood! Good numbers!
My Mommy bought us the little cans of Sophistacat Supreme and now she is buying the big ones too. We just had Country Style Dinner tonight and me and my sister really liked it. But we had never had that before.
My Mommy is trying everything to make us very happy. Your Mommy is doing a lot for YOU too....aren't we lucky kitties?
There is no need to worry about your tail, my good buddy. I have a red spot on my neck so I don't look so great. I will not look at your tail if YOU don't look at my neck, deal? Looking forward to seeing you real soon cause I miss hanging out with you Pal'
Your friend

ps...Raja said to say hello and uh...she misses you too....

My guess is that the closest place where there are specialists are at Tufts or Angell Memorial in Boston.

Another thought is to call Cornell Vet School. They actually have a consultation service that is available to both consumers and veterinary professionals. If you opt for the Cornell route, I'd take a digital photo of the cyst since in this case, a picture may be worth a thousand words!

Any reason you're not getting that many spot checks? (You know I had to ask!)
