Scheduled a last minute appointment for sports massage since I can't bend down (too many nights sleeping on the sofa?!) and just when I was about to leave she goes green on me! Have rescheduled to later which hopefully gives me time to get her back up. Gave her some MC before I had chance to reschedule, will re-test shortly.

Question - can a large meal influence the BG i.e. make it go down? She ate 2 breakfasts this morning since her brother refused his (4oz). Since joining this group I have been splitting her food into smaller meals throughout the day.

ETA - rephrasing my question. Is it a known phenomenon that a large meal can drive the BG down?

Hi Liz,

I have not hear of big meals causing a reduction in BG, but.... I have noticed that when hercs is acting really hungry, he usually has a big dive afterwords? So perhaps a connection may exist but is more that whatever is causing the dive is sensed by the kitties ahead and make them hungry? I don't really know... just especulating....

Sorry you had to cancel your massage, maybe you can try some at home yoga to try and get better?

Actually I'm a member of a FB group for human diabetics. I'm very eager to learn more, obviously!!! But one said, if a human diabetic eat something HC a low is not uncommon. The body releases stored insulin to counteract the carbs.
If it's the same for big amounts I don't know, but I found it quite interesting!

Thanks for your input!

She is always hungry (until she's not) - to the extent that I wonder if I'm starving her! But since having to count calories with the feeding tube, I've been tracking her calories a bit better. I generally give several small meals throughout the day but recently read some guidance in here somewhere to give half the calories at PS and split the rest throughout the day / before nadir. Haven't managed that yet because they both want food around 6pm which is +10 but it's LC.

This morning was unusual because I know she ate 2 breakfasts. Made me wonder if the extra food triggered her body to generate its own insulin. No scientific background or evidence to substantiate this, so figured I'd ask! The info from the human diabetic group IS interesting and haha, until I get more input I will assume it is the same for big amounts ;)

Luckily I was able to re-re-schedule the massage to later this afternoon. I delayed too long and now am at the point of being nearly unable to bend down/get out of a chair... so now it is in Minnie's best interest for me to get it treated, I can't bend down to pick her up for ear pricking! She is not as well trained as others here, she doesn't run to the testing spot...she runs away and hides under it. Such a little diva.

She popped up nicely an hour after the snack (some would say the blue is a bit too much!) but makes me feel better about leaving. I do wonder what would have happened with only the 9% food though!

I don't have a spot, I poke where ever she is. But she comes when it's time for her shots. Not because she wants the shot, but there's foooooooood!!!!

Sounds awful with your back! Hope it gets better after your appointment :bighug::bighug:

Not sure when the poop was in relation to the numbers drop. If a cat is constipated and gets some relief, you could see some numbers drop. Cats with working pancreas could have a good sized numbers drop with food. I saw it once or twice with Neko. It wasn't her pancreas that caused her diabetes, but rather her overactive pituitary gland.
