A sleepy good morning to you all!

Junior had been in the 300 and 400 range for the last 3 days at 1.5u so last night I tested Junior once an hour from 7pm-2am to see what the next step should be.

Last night's highlights:
- PMPS was 327 and he bounced around the 200's
- He seemed more hungry yesterday but that stopped after dinner
- 15 min before +7 he suddenly jumped off the couch and threw up, about 1 tbsp of yellow liquid. Here's yesterday's condo
- I got the ketone strips ready. He didn't pee but I didn't smell any fruity breath. Just cat breath.

He woke me up at 5:30 this morning by purring and kneading my stomach. I think I gave him too much (1/3 can + 1/2 cup water) because he didn't really seem hungry and threw up soon after he had eaten. Even when I was feeding him I thought that was alot of food.

At this point should I test in another hour before giving him insulin? Or give it to him now? And should I feed him again?

Thanks,
Bonnie

Re: 4/26 Junior AMPS 185 +1 402 Dosage question

Have you not shot? If not, you don't have an AMPS. It's your +12 and the +1 = +13. I'm not sure why you haven't shot, though. If that's a true +13, I'd shoot. I'm not sure if you were asking about raising the dose. If this is a bounce, I'd wait until it clears.

You don't want to feed 2 hours before a shot. In the early stages, it's best if you don't feed after nadir -- the insulin is beginning to phase out and numbers are usually on the way back up so food will cause the numbers to be higher. Other than that, there are no "rules."

Most of us give food in small meals that are spaced out over the early part of the cycle. That may help with a cat who's prone to scarf-and-barf. Also, that seems like a lot of water in proportion to the food.

I'd just keep an eye on Junior. We have a lot of kitties who are having tummy troubles lately.

Just a suggestion - that's one heckuva jump between your "AMPS" and "+1." If I get numbers that don't seem to make sense, I re-test. Some meters are finicky. If you have too much or too little blood, you may get a reading but it will be "off." I don't know if the AMPS or +1 is goofy. I suspect it's your AMPS. I'm guessing that Junior may be bouncing off of the yellows.

Re: 4/26 Junior AMPS 185 +1 402 Dosage question

Thanks for your quick response Sienne! I just gave him an 1/8 can just to make sure there's food in his stomach before I give him his insulin. I'll move the 402 as his new AMPS and note the 185 in the notes column.

Good to know about not feeding after nadir but what if they're begging for food? Yesterday he kept begging every 3 hours and stopped after he had dinner.

Re: 4/26 Junior AMPS 402

Hi guys .. glad sienne answered all your questions .. I know sometimes it's hard not to give into food looks from our kitties .. do you have any kitty treats that you could give that wouldn't affect BG numbers? Like freeze dried chicken or boiled chicken? I think both of those are safe for BG numbers, but hopefully someone else can back that up .. have a great day guys!

Re: 4/26 Junior AMPS 402 +2 367 +4 356

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the tips Mocha's bean! Today he doesn't seem as hungry as he was yesterday so I've only given him a few pieces of bonito flakes I had on hand for when I make miso soup. Morning started off rocky but he's been a cool cat since.

Hope the rest of the day is smooth!

Hi all,

Junior has had a poke-y 24 hours but what an interesting snapshot. Any advice on dosage for tomorrow?

Thanks!

He's eating well. Nothing out of the ordinary.

It looks like Junior was bouncing off of the yellows yesterday (hence the red start to the day). Let's see how Junior does this evening. You don't want to increase based on a bounce but it does look like the bounce is breaking. If the numbers are still good tomorrow, I think you're fine to increase to 1.75u. However, a lot can happen in 12 hours.

Great to know! Just wanted to ask now instead of tomorrow morning when it's time to give him his shot.

Thank you both and have a great evening!
