Racci is still running high. I still can't decide whether she is having the longest bounce she ever had from changing doses or if this dose is just no good for her. The pros seem to think it's still a bounce and they haven't steered me wrong yet. It could still be. But I know Racci & it's very unlike her bounces. What to do! I decided to shave her up a teeny bit to about 3.3 and see what happens. She may need a 3.4 if 3.5 is too high. She seems to be very delicate about changing doses and at this point may need shaving rather than .25 point differences at a time, which is what I should probably do next time.

Other than that, she's doing great. All the p's are in place. She's eating her wet food with more gusto even if it isn't the ideal food, it is wet, and she's happy with no signs of her infection returning. Now if she would let me get rid of her matts and get her back on track with her bg's all would be well.

I hope everyone else, beens and kitties, are doing well today.

Happy to see Racci eating well. Hope her numbers come down for you soon.

Now if she would let me get rid of her matts
We have he same issue with Daphne, we can brush and comb her till we get too far down her back, then all we get is hissing and spitting.

Re: 4/25-Racci-AMPS-290

Hi Devon & Barb,

Her matt problem is her back legs because they hurt & her chest right between her arms,,from hanging it in her water bowl. They're both really hard places to sneak up on when she's sleepy too. She's starting to get a few in her belly now also because she's mad that I keep trying. I'll probably just take her to be shaved in spots again. Her belly gets so long that it drags all the litter out of the pan & gets dirty from dragging on the floor but she usually lets me brush that and her back.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, Barb. I feel like anyone who didn't know me would think I neglect her, when in reality she takes up more of my time than I do! Isn't it maddening? I find myself just itching to get into it. It's like a magnet.

Hi Devon, it's nice to hear from you. Racci did let me work on the matt on her chest last night for about 5 minutes but that's the limit of her patience. It's going to take a while at that rate. Maybe your fingers crossed will help for tonight when she's calm. Thanks. You have a great day too and thanks for visiting.

Glad to hear Racci is feeling better these days:) Good luck trying to get those mats out! A shave sounds like a good idea:)
She is such a pretty kitty

Re: 4/25-Racci-AMPS-290

Hi Tamara,

Thanks. I just wish she would stop this bouncing already if that's what's going on. I think you're right, the shave is really the best bet. I just try to avoid vet visits because she gets so upset but I guess it's better for her to get upset once then every day with me trying to brush out the knots. She just cries the entire trip in the car and it takes so long at the vet to cut and shave her. They usually like to keep her for a while and she won't eat so it's really a drag. They're getting worse tho so I'll have to do it.

Ella had some run with those greens, huh? It's a shame she's bounced so hard but what a run! I'm so ready for Racci to get back to some blue runs even at this point.

Re: 4/25-Racci-AMPS-290,+5-211

Mel, She could be bouncing from the blue numbers, I agree..You know from previous experience that a bounce is a response to lower numbers, which does pass...All we do here is trial & error. We get lucky we go with it, if not we try something else, or a different dose..Give the 3.3 a few days & see what happens.
You are a wonderful bean to Racci.Just keep trying--Hugs & Love from us!!

Hi Roni,

She's been blue for so long though. I don't think she was still bouncing from blues, usually its just greens, though she probably might have started doing it again now after this mess of high numbers. I think she's mainly bouncing from two reductions too close together or at least I think that's what started it. Now I think she's bouncing at everything! I probably should have waited on the second reduction, knowing how sensitive to change she is. It's so frustrating when she was doing so well!

Today she was all yellow though. That might be a sign that she's regulating again. I guess we'll know tomorrow. Hopefully she'll start coming down again and stop bouncing. Maybe that little fraction of extra insulin will be enough for her or she's finally clearing the bounce.

Thanks, Roni. Lots of hugs love from us to you guys too.

Instead of trying to brush the matts out can you just snip them off? You want to use scissors with rounded edges though, in case she makes any sudden moves.

Re: 4/25-Racci-AMPS-290,+5-211,+11-225,PMPS-266

Hi Serynn,

I have a very sharp little scissor that I use but it's tiny so she doesn't notice me bringing it close to her. I have been using it to clip the mats. She's pretty good about staying still when I tell her to as long as I'm not brushing, which is also a handicap in getting them out. She won't let me use the big scissor. The problem is that the mats start very close to the skin and some of them are so thick that the scissor won't cut them. I made a lot of progress on the one on her chest between the last 2 days with the scissor, cutting into the mat vertically with a lot of cuts on one side of it but need to get her when she's laying on the other side. Some of them I can and do cut out. She has so much fur no one would miss it. There are certain areas she won't let me touch though like her right leg. That would really need to be shaved. One of the problems with shaving her at this time is that our weather is still very iffy. Right now it's cold and rainy and has been for 3 days. I'm trying to do the best I can with them and work on them until it gets warm and stays warm. I really don't want her laying on cold wood floors without her fur yet.

Hugs,
Melanie
